Why should I reach out to webmasters before disavowing links?
If it is unlikely that a webmaster will reply or looks as though the site is trying to hide contact details then you may not need to contact webmasters before disavowing as it is a waste of time. But in a lot of cases it is more beneficial to you to have a bad link removed than to just disavow it, so it can be worth contacting a webmaster to remove a link. If you are under a penalty though, Google will want to see you are doing everything you can to remove unnatural links and may want to see evidence that you are trying to contact webmasters to remove links rather than just putting everything into a disavow file, because links that are disavowed can just be taken out of the disavow file and be 're-avowed'. Kind Regards

Unique meta descriptions for 2/3 of it, but then identical ending?
You don't get penalized for duplicate meta descriptions. You could have every one on your site the exact same, it won't matter. It doesn't impact rankings. It impacts how likely a searcher is to click through to your website.

Recovering from Google Penguin/algorithm penalty?
Thanks. I'm hoping the next Penguin refresh shows improvement. The consensus seems to be that to recover from a Penguin penalty is a matter of the refresh happens to see any changes.

Redirect from old domain to a new domain
If you are planning to redirect old domain from the new one you probably have to have a complete plan. Make a list of what you ideally want to achieve from the website and how redirect can help you with that. If you have links on different pages of the website so ideally you should do page to page redirect so that all the authority of website one (on any page of the website) will redirect to the new version. Make sure all the redirects are 301 and not 302. Hope this helps!

Best Way To Target A Group Of Keywords
Still relevant: http://moz.com/blog/tactical-seo-how-many-termsphrases-should-i-target-on-a-single-page My honest opinion is that these terms are so related, you could comfortably target them on a single page. Let the content decide the targeting, not the other way around. The risk of optimizing too many pages around the same content are many, including: It comes off as spammy A real risk of a Panda penalty Who wants to write 20 near identical pages of web content about London Scaffolding anyway? So if it were me, I'd target a single page around these keywords, then create supplemental content that answers questions folks might have and also search for. Pages such as: Scaffolding costs / price of scaffolding Scaffolding towers Scaffolding jobs, scaffolding supplies FAQ about scaffolding UK Scaffolding regulations Mobile scaffolding I'd try to make each piece of content the best I could make it, and I'd naturally link back to my money when it made sense. When done right, this method will grab more long-tail traffic, and help your main content page to rank with contextual links from topically relevant pages. Hope this helps! Best of luck with your SEO.

Spammers spammed my website forum - Reason to worry?
looks like you took care of the language issue from what I can tell xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" xml:lang="en-GB" lang="en-GB" dir="ltr"> what do you think about using the help desk in replacement for a forum? It is completely private that way you can have tickets to go out to whoever you are dealing with and none of it is indexed. I also believe that using WAF CloudProxy.Sucuri.net allow you to white list customers whom you trust this is an inexpensive WAF but a very effective one. I believe that would limit the user created spam to a minimum. Sincerely, Thomas

I Mistakenly uploaded Disavow File to Non WWW version of Webiste in Webmaster Tools...is this a Problem???
TAGFEE stands for our core values of Transparent, Authentic, Generous, Fun, Empathetic, and Exceptional. I perhaps should have instead linked to our Community Etiquette page at http://moz.com/community/blog-disclaimer. In short, let's keep this Q&A discussion related to the question -- what to do when the disavow file is uploaded to the non-www version of a domain instead of the www version in GWT.

How does Google determine if a link is paid or not?
I haven't reviewed all of the comments on this post thoroughly, but I thought it was imperative to mention this. If you are paying someone to review your product they are required by law, at least in the U.S., to acknowledge that. Not doing so would be violating FTC guidelines, and bring on potential fines. Controlling crawl speed/delay through dynamic server-code and 503's
Hi INU, I always like avoid using things like 503s as a general rule. There is almost certainly a better way to do it. What about just using Google webmaster tools and Bing webmaster tools? Regarding HREFs it depends how much you rely on that tool. If you don't use it, then I'd more more likely to just block that bot in robots.txt and make sure Google and Bing are controlled using the appropriate tools in the respective webmaster tools. To answer your specific point about whether or not 503 can hurt rankings. In general no as long as they are only short-term. A 503 like 404s or any other response code is a natural part of the web, however, Google has said in the past that repetitive 503s can be treated as permanent rather than temporary and in some cases can result in the pages being removed from the index. I hope this helps, Craig

How would you optimize a new site?
First of all, all comment sections I have ever seen on blogs are nofollow links so they are really a waste of time in terms of SEO, in terms of driving traffic they are ok. Spend time writing quality over quantity content, but more importantly when writing it have a list of news sites / blogs / contacts in mind who you are planning on outreaching the article too. The hardest part is the outreach, anyone can write a great article, but you need to get it picked up and distributed. In an ideal world, you would all ready have made contact with the journalists before hand and see what articles they want. IMO journalist are very busy and if you can provide them with a great article which happens to include a link to your site, if they are rushing to hit a deadline, then you have a higher % chance of it being accepted on their site. Social media the way to go: depends on what industry you operate in some industries this could be a complete waste of time. Especially if you are a B2B company. Plus with Facebook's latest algorithm update its actually quite hard to get a social media post in front of your audience. Biggest tip would be, quality articles over quantity and spend as much if not more time on outreach to relevant blogs, websites to get your content picked upto and linked to.

Tlames Again?
Travis, I think this really proves what Se ma lt was up to from the beginning. Do all the web crawl spam to gain authority and faux traffic so they could show a high DA, etc. Good find. Thanks,

Its posible to use Google Authorship in an online shop?
Just a point here as I just ran into this thread on the "Bounty" QNA section. Google dropped authorship pictures just about the time this thread started, so being more visual will not have the same impact it once had http://searchengineland.com/google-plays-authorship-search-results-dropping-profile-image-google-circle-count-195163 Honestly, I agree with EGOL, I think using authorship as a tactic on product pages when there is really nothing that you authored. That just sounds like an approach that will get you penalized down the road.

Duplicate Content for e-commerce help
Thanks. We have issues with our filter at present (it is Ajax I think) as it doesn't recognise when a variation is out of stock. Which pretty much makes the point of a filter useless. We need it tweaking which our web team are trying to do. Thanks
