  • It's only a guess, but anyone who can cloak to set a webpage to appear differently for the Googlebot user agent can also restrict the cloaking to a range of IP addresses which Google normally uses. It would be sloppy not to do such because everyone has the ability to easily detect the cloaking otherwise, and the bad guys are trying to make that difficult.

  • As I understand this issue, if the paid link is aimed at getting traffic and not aimed at getting link juice it should be ok but how does one know if link juice is being passed by the link before the link is placed. It can certainly be checked after for no follow.

  • Too bad I don't have your link profile before the drop...  maybe the previous company had some heavy-duty paid links holding you up.  I'll check back later.

  • Thanks for the reply Irving. Unfortunately, 99% of the links lead to the home page. I'm in the process of building quality links from respected directories. This includes filling out full profile information, map info, services, etc. Using original content on everything - rewriting the core keyword heavy company profile with subtle changes on every site. Registered the site for Bing Pro, Google Places, Merchant Circle, Manta.Com, etc... Making sure to tweet and FB the posts to encourage SM participation. As far as on page optimization, I'm waiting for the developer to roll out the new Joomla 1.7 structure. I've done all of the OPO, like selecting proper htags, generating all new meta-descriptions and titles and reconstructing the Information Architecture in an excel worksheet. I've re-written a good majority of the site content to better reflect the business goals to both users and search engines. I cant wait to implement all of the behind the scenes work and watch the progress when it goes live. I guess my biggest concern is the long term trustrank implications of the domain being identified as a forum spammer and security exploiter. I started the process of writing letters to the forum masters apologizing for past transgressions and asking for profiles and links to be removed. I've got a 1% success rate on everything I've sent out so far. I think the best that I can hope for at this point is these very old forums upgrade their tech, purge non-participating users, and/or cease operations over the course of time. Moving forward, I'm going to spend less time worrying about these old links, and more time creating a healthy SM presence. Let's hope the search engines don't penalize the site too much for past mistakes...

  • LoL, no that's not real SEO, it's fake SEO and won't do anything for you. It's the kind of stuff that worked years back when no-one else was doing it. Aside from that, you won't get good SEO for those sorts of low costs anyway... I have a tantrum about it here if you're interested in knowing what to avoid

  • Hi Ashley, I'm following up on older questions. I'm seeing you at 16 for loose diamonds, and 46 for engagement rings with the URL you've shown. Threads on Q&A don't get bumped with new activity, so if you'd still like some advice, I'd suggest opening a new question with current information and seeing what people have to say. The Q&A section is a lot more active now than it was in March, so you're likely to get a few new viewpoints.

  • I say No. 301's leak link juice and it is not clear if relevance passes though a 301, relevance is a big part of linkng, Why not just build the link to your own site? if you are talking about organic links, well you may be waiting a long time.

  • Hi Dave! So I'm sure other people may have some theories on why they're doing it, but I know that we were getting spammed badly on YOUmoz, we implemented CAPTCHA to the page and that seemed to solve the problem. I mean we still get spam, but only a handful each day rather than say 30. I'll let others chime in as well but wanted to let you know what worked for us. Jen

  • How long is the site on number one? There must be tons of sites in hungarie trying to rank for viagra and to only put the name in the domein to rank likes this would be really be great but i think there needs to be something else going on here. I will take a look and get back on this subject later. I just looked to the source code but there is nothing special there. What i do see here is that the second one also only have 54 links to the viagra part of the site. If you trying to rank for it i gues you just have to make your site simple, fast and some links with goods keywords.

  • You could write a positive article about them or provide them with a testimonial that they can add to their site.

  • It's really good explanation. I am going to set redirect. But not 301 but, 302. Because, I want to drill down more on same subject and will find out alternative solution with my problem. I am not opposing you. I am picking parallel solution [~302 instead of 301] what you recommend. BTW: Thanks for your time on my question. I am still not mark it as answered. Let's see what happen in next response.

  • if you mark a payed review as paid for and put a nofollow on all links it is perfectly legit and white hat. Any changes to that make it "darker".

  • When I perform a search on Google.co.uk for "W11171G2" there are 36 results total returned. Understand first that because we are using such a specific and unique search query, few results are returned and we can see every one. If we change the query to "W11171G2" watch" then 1.2 billion results are returned. Also, I don't see the page you shared in those 36 results. I see two pages from your site. #21 rank is http://www.firstclasswatches.co.uk/red-dial.html, #11 rank is http://www.firstclasswatches.co.uk/products_search.php?page=8\. There are additional results but I need to click "repeat the search with omitted results included" to see them, which most people are unlikely to click. There are two types of issues when dealing with duplicate content. Google will very often index duplicate and thin content pages, but they are algorithmically penalized in the rankings. The "main" version of the duplicate content will rank fine, and the rest will rank significantly lower. You are correct that many of your competitors have thin content as well. You should be loving that fact, not upset by it. You can step up your site and take top rankings.
