  • Thanks, this is very helpful. I love the idea of having the new blogger write posts about the same topics thereby getting some much more engaging content at the URLs that already have traffic coming in.

  • Hi there Here are a couple of great links: 2015 Local Search Ranking Factors How to Perform the Ultimate Local SEO Audit Both of those will help you immensely. I would definitely markup branches and also take a look at Moz Local's bulk upload that will help you load all of your branch addresses to local listing aggregators. From there, you can manage your listings and update/remove them as needed. I would review the above links and start focusing on your local SEO efforts. But I would still markup as much as you can that's relevant to the business and searches that are happening around it's industry/area. Hope this helps! Good luck!

  • Hi Schlomi. I'm Joey, one of the developers of WP Customer Reviews. I apologize for not seeing this earlier, but I'm glad I stumbled on it and very happy to help. Your question is one we get a lot. Carson sums it up best when he says you are at Google's mercy - they decide, and it's not just about the formatting of your snippets. You can see just how "hit and miss" it is by looking at the serps when you search on "powered by wp customer reviews" https://www.google.com/search?sourceid=chrome-psyapi2&ion=1&espv=2&ie=UTF-8&q=%22powered%20by%20wp%20customer%20reviews%22&oq=%22po&aqs=chrome.0.69i59j69i57j0l4.1099j0j4 As you can see, 20-25% of the listings have star ratings in the results. I'd love to see more, but it shows what's out there. The best thing you can do to improve your chances of ratings showing up in search is to upgrade - I see you are using version 2.8, which is several versions behind. We overhauled the plugin in September, which included improvements to the rich snippets. As an internet marketer, the intent of WP Customer Reviews was to get user generated content onto sites and have the ratings show up in SERPS. It does the job, but like always, Google decides what shows up. Thanks for using the plugin. If you have some ideas for improvements, drop me a line.

  • Thanks Dirk - I only wanted to keep it short term. As long as all link juice is passed to new site then I can just kill it off.  I wanted to redirect specific pages because the new sites page names are different.  That would be the only reason to install WP, to facilitate redirects. The old site is so old it is done in frontpage so there is no htaccess file.  I see you did find a piece of dup content but the errors have been there for months.  I just changed that page name last week and apparently didn't 301 it.   I think the strange url you found might be part of the problem, perhaps they are just bad relative links. I will try screaming frog.  Thank you for your help.

  • Taking websites offline, redirecting multiple times, can damage the value of a business. They are actions that must be carefully considered, developed into a plan, and then played in the proper sequence.   Doing this properly requires a lot of detailed study to maximize value of the assets. For that reason, I can't give you a detailed procedure for doing this.  It is different with every website.  When I have done this type of work, I develop a plan and then get feedback or confirmation from other smart people.    It's not the type of work that is done on generic methods or quick answers from a Q&A post.

  • All the options for fetch in Google search console has a different purposes Desktop - This is default and this option is for the website which can crawl images, videos, webpages and all that. Mobile smartphone - This option is for Google smartphone crawlers. Mobile xHTML - This option does not support rendering and Uses the SAMSUNG XHTML/WML crawler. Mobile cHTML - This option is mostly for the Japanese feature phones which Uses the DoCoMo Google Mobile crawler and this option also does not support rendering. Source here

  • Both answers above are correct and great ones. From a strategical point of view, formally blocking russian IPs does not have any SEO effect in your case, because - as a business - you don't even need an SEO strategy for the Russian market.

  • Hi has anyone found a solution to this problem since? I have 190 crawl errors and they are all linked to image url's fro example www.example.com/image.  When I click on one of the Moz links in the report, it takes me to a blogpost page which has the image on it. Highly unusual since the image will have only ever been added to one of the pages which have been listed in the main menu. All feedback would be welcome - Thanks!

  • Hi there It doesn't matter - I include the current page just in case and to always help search engines understand the architecture. It always felt odd to me if I didn't include it because I am just giving a "partial" structure in my mind by NOT including the current page. My vote - include it. Like Google says you can either add it or leave it, so it's not going to hurt you either way! Hope this helps! good luck!

  • Matt is correct - building pages in a way that adds value to the user is the way to go. Building a separate page for each variation of a keyword is not only unnecessary, it can lead to lower rankings overall since Google has stated that these are not the kinds of sites they want to rank. I would recommend very strongly against scraping content from other sites, or posting the same content on mulitple sites that you own, as well. Spend that time and effort on creating unique, expert, trustworthy content that adds value for your audience instead. I haven't read the book you mention, but it might be time to find a different resource to learn about content marketing.

  • If 2 links come from different sites, but they are in the same IP, those links will pass less juice than if they were in different IP. Likewise other have responded. I recommend you to not worry about that. After all, there are finite IPs and there is able to be infinite sites. Of course, you should not abuse. Even more, if you're running a PBN, be extremaly careful on the external links you create. Gaston.

  • I'd make the breadcrumbs Home > Running Shoes > Purple Pumas and the title "Purple Puma Running Shoes". You have to think about what the customer needs when they land there. What if they have a screen reader? How do customers look at breadcrumbs? They're going to be looking to the title for information about what the product is when they come in from a search. Most of the time, brand names are only going to get you so far in customer's recognizing what something means with that brand.
