How can you promote a sub-domain ahead of a domain on the SERPs?
Sorry for delay - thanks for this - will most likely give your suggested steps a try!

Spam Score 8/17 with no inbound links. Any hints ?
Moz's Spam Score is about far more than just questionable backlinks. Since we don't have a URL to dig deeper and offer specific suggestions, the best I can really off you is a couple of links to better understand what it is you're looking for - it will probably spark a few ideas for you. Link 1 - Whiteboard Friday Link 2 - Moz Blog As far as using tools like OSE and Majestic goes, Chris Hickman is correct in that they're imperfect. OSE seems to have the smallest index (ie the lowest volume of sites crawled) while Majestic has the most so it's only natural that Majestic would be giving you higher numbers. Hopefully this will at least point you in the right direction!

Advice for rapidly declining ranking-- can an old indexed sitemap cause this?
Thanks for your help, Bernadette. I really appreciate your advice. I had thought to crawl the site-- I see a few 302 redirects and one 404 response. Webmaster Tools does not indicate any errors found by Google. The link idea is a good idea-- when I took a look at our backlinks detected by OpenSite Explorer, I find that we have increased in the number of links in the last 3 months 120 (we had lost 50 links, but the domains linking to our site overlap completely). Moz does not show any of the links as spammy. Are there any other link-related tools that I should be considering here?

SERPs started showing the incorrect date next to my pages
Yeah, I'd do the same. Another option would be (if it is your video) to re-upload the video to YouTube, that way it gets a new very recent date.

Missing 301 redirects
Thanks Sean, It's a Shopify site, so I don't think the dev has access to server logs. I think the alternative approach might work though. I'm not sure if they have a URL export, but if they do I'll suggest they use the list function. Thx again.

Top domain(s) not at all showing up for branded keywords
Hey sym_admin, thanks for your response! I'll relay your suggestions to our devs, and I'll certainly be in touch if I have any more questions. Thanks again!

Website relauch - traffic dropped in Latin America
Has the content of the pages been updated? Could this be direct result of query mismatches now vs previous content in Spanish and Portuguese ( i suppose those are the content languages used in Latin America). Have you made sure no 3rd party coincidences are not causing this (competitor coming along strong in the same period of time, market demand changes, search phrases changes)? Have you compared your organic arrival queries from before to now and see if you are getting similar numbers of hits for specific key phrases? There has got to be some further digging involved here, this just sounds way too odd to be a natural situation, something has got to be funny or wrong.

SERP result (URL) doesn't change after a 301
Thanks Danny, Currently working in search console incl. updating the site map and so on. The change of address tool is not applicable to this situation as the 'old' URL was some kind of a testing environment (without GSC implemented) that was indexed before I started in this role ... So wanted to get that result removed from the index by redirecting it to the correct location. André

Different URLs for signed in and signed out users
How is it that signed in and signed out users get different urls for the same page, I have never actually seen this practice in any CMS I have seen or used before. Client should not decide these things... you as the developer or the seo should provide the right way of doing things and explain to them why. To say the least you are dealing with duplicate content as as risk and in that case you can use canonical tag to specify the primary page. But I would not listen to the client for what they demand, a lot of times clients have no friggin clue about this stuff and ask the vendors to shoot them in their own foot... good vendors will counter with proper reasoning and explanation and if you are the SEO in charge in this case, know that their insisting decisions will have major implications in the results you get and the treatment and longevity of contract you get from these clients... just my 2 cents from few years of doing this as a freelancer, but now I am running my own team and agency and client says this does not mean anything to me anymore when it comes to technical decisions. I ask them about their end goal and find the right way of achieving that.

301 redirection for e-commerce website
Hi Bernadeete, Thanks for your reply. The problem for us is that the URL may also changes not just subdomain. e.g., https://www.liquorland.co.nz/product1.aspx --> https://shop.liquorland.co.nz/product2.aspx The current domain www.liquorland.co.nz will be hosted on a new CMS and direct people to the e-commerce part which now has moved to shop.liquorland.co.nz. We are thinking about redirecting just the main category pages because too many redirection rules as our developer said may hinder the website speed. But I am just worried without proper 301 redirection for many other pages, it may have a negative impact on its organic performance although i am not quite sure how big impact this would be. Would it be helpful if i redirect all other pages (so there will not be any complex filters to slow down the website?) to the homepage? Thanks a lot.

Removing a canonical tag from Pagination pages
Any resources on how to get rid of the canonical tag for those pages, and also categories and tags? I found something in Stackoverflow but I'm copying and pasting it into my header.php page and it's not working... so I feel a little clueless. Any ideas? http://stackoverflow.com/questions/32372589/how-to-remove-rel-canonical-from-tag-pages-in-wordpress

Old domain still being crawled despite 301s to new domain
Hey Stephen, Did you ever solve this? I'm experiencing the exact same issues you've described above, so I'm curious if you ever figured it out. Thanks.

We have 2 versions of URLs. we have the mobile and the desktop. is that a duplicate content?
Hi Armen, Taken into account that these mobile pages are not the AMP variant of them I would say this might become an issue. In the end you're improving the user experience but as you're doing it by creating two pages which are the same based on the content you're not doing the best from the SEO perspective. What I would do is look into using the canonical tags back to one of the two: either mobile or desktop. By doing that you'll make sure that there is only 1 variant of every page out there for SEO. Added Schema and Rankings Went Down
If you use the Schema WordPress plugin, it may be that you have breadcrumbs enabled. Martha van Berkel, a founder, helped me troubleshoot a similar issue and we resolve them by turning off breadcrumbs. It seems that some JS can cause odd behavior. I believe it works better to add schema via the GTM. SEMrush is tops at establishing your website's health, but cannot diagnose some of these happenings (no one service can). Your site relies on quite a few plugins - I wish you the best. I do audits; let me know how I can help you.

Drop in Indexed Page + Organic Traffic
Oops, I missed that part. Have you checked Google Search Console to see if someone set any URL parameters? The first thing I would do is determine how many pages actually should be indexed to see if there's a large discrepancy between that and the number Google shows. A crawler like Screaming Frog can help with this. If you export the crawl to Excel, you can easily remove duplicates in the canonical URL column and filter out the noindexed pages. If you find there's no real discrepancy, Google may have simply been cleaning house of some really old links in the index that hadn't been crawled in a while. Beyond that, if you can pinpoint any specific URLs that have been deindexed, use the "Fetch as Google" tool to help diagnose or post it here so the community can take a look.

Do I submit a sitemap for a highly dynamic site or not? If so, what's the best way to go about doing it?
Like Bernadette already mentioned, it's very important as well for a dynamic site to have a sitemap. It will make sure that the pages that are new are submitted to Google faster then them finding out by themselves what kind of pages are new.
