  • Hi Matt, I would agree 100% with Ryan's comments on robots.txt. In addition to this, it is a notoriously unreliable method for blocking...if the crawler happens to come to your site via an external link to any page other than the home page it will not see robots.txt. Sha.

  • Product descriptions have been produced by knowledgeable people at the company. My job is to present them and attract attention. They don't want me to use a real person as a personna, thus the question.

  • Links in footer is probably the worst place to put them. Links in sidebar are also of less value. Links are best in the content of a page. There is a body of evidence that for links based in the content portion of a page, the higher the link the more value it has. Such that, if the content is 3 paragraphs, P1 is better than P2 and P2 is better than P3. I know there is a good evaluation on this I read about 5 - 6 months ago and if I can find in under 5 minutes, I will edit in the url.

  • You could also tweet  a link or use other social media channels to encourage Google to crawl your site a bit quicker

  • Yes, I agree the ideal solution would be to make the content unique, however all being well, I will have about 20,000 threads and 50,000 posts added in a month. The other main reason for doing is it the forum script creates users as assigns posts to them so the forum will also seem to have about 5,000 active users. Removing the duplicate content would be easy enough, can run an sql query and remove all posts before x date,

  • You're welcome. Yes, that's right.  When it comes to catering for duplicate content issues, there will usually be a page (such as the one with the Canonical tag) that won't be best placed for search. Inbound links, for example, will be best pointed to the main page, such as your main Woodside page. This will be the page to focus the SEO on for that particular location. Regards Simon

  • Yeah, I think that way too. I am using my desired keyword in the sub-domain name, but I don't think it's giving me much credit.

  • Thanks so much for your help - I think this should fix it. You've saved me hours of time. It's our own cms so I should be able to fix it today.

  • I'd definitely check out how much bandwidth you're using with your hosting company and if you need to expand it to compensate for the increase in traffic.

  • Though I doubt your customers are going to be searching for you with an underscore.

  • We are having some problems with them right now, and the team is troubleshooting as I write this. Keep an eye on Twitter for updates, and I'll also come and update this page when we know more. So sorry for the inconvenience!
