  • if you fo 100+ 301s to a single page, they will be ignored, well at least the vast amount of them.  do they all have incomming links? if not just 301 the ones that do.

  • If they are simply urls that are in the index, they will go away after a few weeks. but if there are links pointing to the deleted pages either internal or external, then you need to take action. For interal links you should delete the links, for external you should 301 thenm to a relative page

  • I'm wondering if I should if should optimize our ecommerce categories to be descriptive or use abbreviations to help keep the URL length to a minimum? What kind of search traffic could your categories generate?  If they do generate a lot, I would just create a landing page specifically for that portion, and then use /short-category/exact-match-best-served-product-phrase Like: /shoes/whatever-shoes-kids-are-wearing-these-days

  • He Eidna, With the exception of the very last link, all the links you shared are to your SEOmoz pro page which is not accessible to anyone else but you. With respect to the last link, if that appears in your crawl diagnostics there is likely an error on your site which produces that link. The purpose of the crawl report is to bring such issues to your attention. In your crawl report look at the row which contains that link, then check the "referrer" field. That field will show the URL of the page with that bad link. Also, I took a quick look at your site and noticed the "home" link in your navigation and footer both point to the "www" version of your site, which is then 301 redirected to the non-www version of the URL. That is an issue which should be corrected. All of your internal links should point directly to the proper page without a need for redirection.

  • Does not take from your site. This type of feed, to some degree was presumed to bring freshness or keep a site current. Most are in sidebars and I think are likely devalued or irrelevant. (See Alan's comment - there is a reason he does it that way.) If you want to add something to your site for your visitors and you believe it is relevant to them, do it. Set it where it always opens to a new tab or page so that if they close the feed page they landed on before returning, your page is still on their screen. As to looking at a site to try to understand it, I can't. I see sites everyday that i have to believe have a purpose...I will never know what it is. Best

  • I've asked about this issue before, and got a decent response.  But It didn't accurately identified my problem.  Maybe I could ask again and see if I could get another person to respond. I was just hoping to skip all the run around and pay a reputable company to tell me what's wrong and exactly how I can fix it.

  • thanks! So far I have no better explanation than "size matters". I also have a small non-Wordpress site (well optimized) that took a hit in Bing, except for one key phrase on a sub page that jumped 48 places. Comparing this, to another "A grade" optimized sub page on the same site that slipped 48 places, the difference is that the one "going up " is a slightly competitive phrase and the one "going down" is a highly competitive one...

  • I was getting at that, but I wasn't going to outright say it until I knew if he had links pointing there or not. lol
