Is there a tool to figure out bad backlinks
I see. I would presume that these guys have been penalised then. It may be that they are now trying to reindex their site and are still appearing in the listings but much lower now. There isnt really a definite way of knowing if they have been banned, but as good practise, I would try and get any URL removed from a website that I had any doubts about. You could maybe try contacting the Google Webmaster team to confirm this, but I don't know how useful they will be. Then again, its worth a try at least. Matt.

SeoMoz crawler giving false positives?
Hey, Our crawler actually requests the page http://mysite.com first but then finds all your links to www.mysite.com You will want to contact the person responsible for hosting or developing your site in order to make these changes. Have a great day! Kenny

Duplicate Page Content
Oh, sorry - didn't catch that some were duplicated. Given the scope, I think I'd put the time into creating unique titles and single-paragraph descriptions. There's a fair shot these pages could rank for longer-tail terms, and the content certainly has value to visitors.

Does Google penalize multiple websites on a single server?
If you have duplicate content across multiple web presences on the same server, then yes, you may have a problem. It's likely best to go to some effort to differentiate your content and make sure each site is unique.

Should WordPress themes be hard coded for better SEO?
Hey Ben, Thanks. Am using a Wootheme called Simplicity. I have just left the minify box unchecked in W3 Total Cache since this was causing the problem. The site speed seems to be ok though even with this disabled.

Shorter URLs
Thanks for this awesome recommendation! Do you see any problem in shorting only the software (money making) category, while leaving other categories long? such as mybrand.com/services/money-managers mybrand.com/resources/education/how-to-trade

Duplicate Content Issue
Hi Hfranz, I took a look at your campaign and was unable to duplicate the errors, which leads me to believe it was a blip in the crawling. I'm speculating here, but my suspicion is that there was a miscommunication between your web server and the SEOmoz crawler, the end result being the crawler got sent on a wrong crawl path, and your server kept delivering the bad URLs. Hopefully, things will return to normal after the next crawl. If not, feel free to contact the help team at help@seomoz.org. You can also double check with Google Webmaster Tools, to see if there has been an increase in crawl errors or html suggestions. Finally, your web server should be configured to deliver a 404 for these URLs that don't exist (www.example.com/testing.php/helloworld) Unfortunately, I can't tell you exactly how to do this, and you may need to find a developer with expertise in this area - but my guess is very little, or no, damage has been done.

Is this a google dance?
Marie, I totally agree with you I have a site I am working on that keeps going from 2 to 7 then to 3 then to 7. It is hard to know what is working and what isn't and if it is working at all. I guess I will just sit tight for a while. I agree, just keep making good content and you can't loose.

Worpress Tags Duplicate Content
I don't think I got hit went a penalty or anything. But possibly, would I have a warning in my WHT? However, my traffic did drop 66% from organic traffic. I did run a SEOMoz crawl on my site and it found 78 duplicate pages. These were all the url.com/tag/title here. I checked my Wordpress plugin in and my seo plugin had everything checked but my "noindex for archives tags".

Htaccess query
Hi again Matt, Actually, you don't need to be using the 301 at all. A simple rewrite will do what you are wanting. If you do it like this: RewriteRule ^vacancy/([0-9]+)$ vacancy.php?id=$1 [L] your URLs would be a lot more friendly. The resultant URLs would look like this: /vacancy/12345 Hope that helps, Sha

Does having mulitste wordpress with same templaes hurt you?
We do excactly that. We have a wordpress installation with 50+ niche blogs and another with 5 magazines. It has many advantages, to use the same codebase. And even to use the same theme as we do on: http://www.naanoo.com http://www.techboom.de http://www.stylingqueens.de because, every step towards better usability, crawlability etc. helps all your sites. If all you sites are conform with the Google guidelines i don't see any problems doing so. Our experience with it is good.
