For keyword relevance, how important is proximity to beginning of the line and/or page?
Thanks, Peter. That's pretty much what we were thinking: we always err on the side of the reader, and it seemed in a short 4-5 word H1 tag there would be little difference in relevance when the keyword comprises 50% of the H1. Really appreciate your quick reply.

5 minutes riddle of a hacked website - 2nd run
Hi, if anyone is interested, i have found the solution for those type of links: You can generate a 404 by catching the string. RewriteEngine On RewriteCond %{REQUEST_METHOD} GET RewriteCond %{QUERY_STRING} (^|&)your bad link RewriteRule .* /your 404 link#$1 [NE,R] I hope that will spare somebody the time i needed.. Cheers

No Access to change duplicate product title and meta tags!?
Well this system the company made is used for a lot of companies that sell a particular manufacturers products, so they have it set up this way so that when the manufacturer adds a new product it updates every site that they built. Its a mess. I already found a company from another state that had my clients name left in their title tags from when they copied the info over. At least I got that resolved though.

How to fix duplicate content errors with Go Daddy Site
Does your friend have FTP access? If he/she does, then put a 301 redirect from the one you want to rank to the other. Having a site with "www" and without is actually having 2 pages with the same content, something you can easily fix by redirecting the entire domain to the other with a 301 response. If he/she does have FTP access, look for the .htaccess file and put the following: RewriteEngine On RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !=businessname.com [NC] RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://businessname.com/$1 [R=301,L] Remember to change "businessname.com" with the actual domain name. Hope that helps!

Should i index or noindex a contact page
Actually, no-indexing your contact page is usually a very bad idea, especially if you are depending on any aspect of local SEO for the site in question. You Contact page is the ideal spot to include all your geo-location information, your properly formatted NAP (Name, Adderss, Phone) to match your Local Citations, and a Google Map of your location. As the others have said, even if not depending on Local SEO, there's no value to just no-indexing this single page. Paul

SEO is DEAD – Long live ADWORDS
"Last year I spent over $10,000 on SEO services for the job boards and didn't see any Google increased traffic for my money. In face due to Panda and Penguin our traffic to the job boards has actually gone down by 50% despite throwing all that money into SEO." Well it sounds to me like you were burned by a blackhat SEO company. It's hard to tell who does it right and who does it wrong and unfortunately I've seen more cases of this than the latter but I like to think that's because the people that are happy with their services aren't quite as vocal. In any case, if the SEO company you were working with resulted in you getting hit by Penguin and Panda then they were clearly doing it the wrong way and they should know better. Hopefully as people become more educated and Penguin evolves these types of blackhat spammers will run out of business and disappear entirely, leaving the door open for the real marketers (SEM is the better term) to pick up the pieces and re-claim their name. Your other friends were burned as well. Again there are a ton of blackhatters out there and it's really too bad. The company I work for in-house was paying thousands to another SEO firm that did the same thing and I've spent almost a year digging this domain out from under penalties. It has been successful, I might add. You should look into other Digital Marketing firms. Portent, Distilled, SEOAware, etc. There are so many that do awesome jobs. Here's the thing I like to think will help you find a real SEM marketer: If they promise to get you "tons of links" and improve ranking QUICKLY, they are no good. That's the kind of thing that lands you in Penguin-hell. If they promise to develop a strategy for the long-term and produce content while finding channels and funneling opportunities your way then you're on the right track. From my experience, the list of SEO firms here at Moz.com is excellent and a good place to start when looking for this type of marketing help. I'm truly sorry you and your friends had a bad experience. Don't despair, this can be fixed. And the honest-to-goodness fact remains that organic listings get more qualified traffic than paid and ultimately generate more conversions. That's a fact that is backed up by stats. I wish you luck in the future and appreciate you bringing this conversation to these forums. I know you are not alone, many others have been burned and I hope that those who have can come here to get answers from the good folk of the Moz community. Take care!

Moving a blog from Blogger
Hi Waqid This is a tricky one I think because the general consensus is that the best place to have a blog for SEO is at yourdomain.com/blog, i.e. a sub-folder on your website (and not preferably blog.yourdomain.com). But if you already have an external blog running, then that raises the question how can you move it and move all of your link equity, making sure that everything is 301 redirected at the old blog location to the your website? Wordpress do offer a guided transfer service which you can read more about here. In addition, they can provide a site redirect option - details here, but I am not sure if that gives you 301 redirects or not. Perhaps someone could confirm on that. The thing is, even if it does, then you will lose some link equity with 301 redirects - probably around 5-10% on average. So, I guess the decision needs to be based on how many blog articles there are to move and how many point back to your client's domain. If not many, then I would just move them, but if a lot, it may be best to leave them. Going forward however, I would recommend that you do set up a blog for them on their site so that all new blogging is in what I believe will be the best place for it. I hope that helps, Peter

Interesting Observation of some rankingsc
Looks like they are still ranking. This is a very odd tactic. Waiting on any input .

Is "commented out" text still read by the SEs?
Another possibility is that there is anchor text or citations pointing to that site that helps Google know it's related to that city, even if that city isn't mentioned on the site.

GWT, URL Parameters, and Magento
Thanks! I have decided to do this and am turning off a few parameters at a time to ensure it doesn't cause any crawling or indexing issues.

Wordpress 4xx errors from comment re-direct
Thank you both! It was Moz that was throwing up the error reports, and it took about three minutes to switch to Disqus, import the comments, and disable the worpress login. If nothing else, it cleans up the Moz CSV report so we can spend time on the real 404 issues. You seriously saved me hours of pain sorting answers on the wordpress forums - thanks! Angela
