It looks like a linkfarm
Agreed. It's hard to tell how the site is set up from the description.

Launching large content project - date-stamp question
Thanks for the responses. All content will live on the same domain. So we're releasing this product in BETA and are waiting to let Google know about it until all the bugs are out. About 50% of the content will have the same date, while the other 50% was published sporadically over the last year, all with different date stamps. Unfortunately, we need to launch all this content at once because the project relies on us being comprehensive. It'll look thin if we don't include everything we created. Of course, as we move forward and add content, we will definitely employ a calendar of 2-3 articles a week and date stamps will reflect that schedule. There will never be a big content dump like this again. As for promotion, we have a schedule for all this new content so we are spreading our outreach out over time. So in a nutshell, it sounds like it won't hurt me (or help me) to have a bulk of our content reflect the same date stamp.

Unfamiliar Meta Description Tags
Hi There Any luck with this? What CMS are you using? Most CMS's allow editing of this sort of thing. If not, as others have suggested you could see if the descriptions show up in something like Screaming Frog or even just a simple header checker like http://urivalet.com/

Sitemap url's not being indexed
Anders, Thanks for the reply. I definitely agree a self referring canonical might just be a good extra addition on these product pages, so I'm definitely adding that to our list of to do's if it does not improve. In terms of indexing pages - We have not restricted crawl frequency, we have it set to "allow google to determine the optimal crawl rate". No other warnings found within the search console either. Thanks for your help.

Why are only PDFs on my client's site being indexed, and not actual pages?
Thank you so much, Anders, I am getting the client to change this immediately. Brilliant answer!

Ecommerce filter views, URLs and the SEO implications
You can set up Canonical tags in your template. Usually the default is to canonical the page's URL, but if you create the canonical tag to the main page, you should be ok. It will help reduce duplicate content and tell google that you want them to pay attention to the content and structure of your main page. I would also set parameters in GWT, this will help reduce errors, like 404 errors if product options change in the future. When you are using dynamic URL structure like this, it also helps Google understand and read them better. I would implement both of these changes. Depending on what platform you are in, you should be able to export the URLs to easily import the canonical tags.

Http to https - Copy Disavow?
Thanks. I had assumed the same but then I read these blog posts that seems to contradict this: http://brianjackson.io/how-to-migrate-from-http-to-https-complete-tutorial/#step19 https://www.mariehaynes.com/switching-https-happens-disavow/

Inner pages will not rank - only Home Page
I don't agree with the "waiting it out" approach. Here is what I see when I think about your situation and your site: 1st: Where do your inbound links point? Are they pointed only at your home page? Perhaps if you link in using the anchor text "varicose veins" or "varicose vein treatment" that you link them into the "varicose veins" page...? Makes more sense. Apply this everywhere for various terms. 2nd: The page is very long. Full of great information, but very long. I doubt that people are actually sitting there and reading through all that. If you have THAT much to say about the subject, why not break it up into smaller, user-friendly pieces? Create a new page about compression hose, and how this can help control varicose veins < Create a new page only about Microphlebectomy, Sclerotherapy, etc or any other pages that have the similar structure of too many words on one page. Have your website grow, and become the authority on both the subject, and the treatments. 3rd: Interlink, interlink, interlink, and add CTA elements into the page. Make Google see that people are staying on your site for long periods of time. If you only want the conversion, then get rid of all the extra text, move it to it's own page, and put some buttons, offers, or something other than words! Relocating much of the extras will also allow your image galleries to move higher on the page, as I bet that what people scroll down to look at anyway. It's too wordy, break it up, and focus on what your goal is for people when they reach that page. If it is innformational, them provide the condensed version and (be subtle: making use of clever and indirect methods to achieve something) link to your conversion pages or related information. 4th: Improve your SEO: Page title: Varicose Veins Treated By A Houston Vascular Surgeon Meta description:Texas Vein & Cosmetic Specialists in Houston, TX, offers professional treatment for varicose veins. Visit us online today for more information. Could be: Page title: Varicose Vein Treatments Houston TX | Texas Vein and Cosmetic Specialties Meta description: Visit the Texas Vein and Cosmetic Specialist in Houston TX today. We offer multiple treatments for varicose veins and people suffering from vein-related pain or problems. Main image should be an H1 tag, since this is the page that talk about the treatments, not the current H1 of "varicose veins", as it's too generic There is room for improvement over the whole site, honestly. H tags are not targeting the users queries, pages not properly targeting where users are at in their buying stage, etc. This should help you get started though. Hope this helps!

Meta Title Tags - Quick question!
Honestly, I like your example competitor's tag, and here's why: Canon BJ10V Canon BJ-10V Cheap Inkjet Cartridges Canon BJ-10V Ink Canon BJ-10V Ink Printers Cheap Inkjet Cartridges for Canon BJ-10V Ink Printers Just look at all those beautiful keywords that look just like something someone would actually type into a search engine to find your product. It's descriptive and gets the job done pretty well. You could probably lose one of the printer names and add your brand, but I don't think it's so spammy as you think.

How much difference does .co.uk vs .com for SEO make?
Update to the above. Just checked that the results also apply in Yahoo and Bing, in that I rank first page for .com but 2-3rd page for .co.uk. As I understand setting geographic target in WMT would have no bearing on this? Seems .searchengine.co.uk really prefers .co.uk over .com?

Will unused/dead pages within my site that is non-linked hurt my seo?
Thanks for the help. I guess it was bad practice on my part to have a lot of unused pages on the website but glad it doesn't have much bad effects. I used site:yoursite and it returned a lot of the unwanted pages (came with the theme). I've removed them now and will return 404 for now until removed.

Cross domain canonical issue
SEOBandits... one thing is what examples Google presents and another the reality. The hreflang annotations can be used in every international or multilingual SEO option: ccTlds; Subdomains; Subfolders Regarding your fear re: Duplicated Content, the hreflang annotations substantially help avoiding this issue, because you are telling Google that those contents may look substantially or entirely identical to it, but they are meant for different users in different geo-location, hence they are not to be considered as duplicates.

Connecting long tail keywords to pages
Hello Warren, The more you think about this the more likely you are to get yourself in trouble with Google. Just write informatively and naturally, with the goal of converting the visitor, and you should be fine. I know this advice sounds like it's brushing off the question, but it's not. If you start putting keywords like "los angeles widget" and "strong green widget florida" into the copy you're going to ruin your chances of ranking well in the long-term... Likewise if you start creating geographic targeted doorway pages. Both of these tactics are against Google's Webmaster Guidelines and are pretty easy for them to spot. I would take these "long tail" keywords and group them by topic. For example: Widgets (size) Widgets (strength) Widgets (location) Then I would total up the search volume for each "set" of long tail keywords. If it looks like it might be worthwhile to create content, then put up a page for each set and use the variations naturally. Don't worry if you can't use them all exactly. Google gave you the data so you can assume they already know the semantic relationships between the phrases - thus, you don't need to put them all in there. Search for "Cheap Widget" and you'll see results for "Inexpensive Widgets". Make sense? If you do create these topical pages just be sure that they are valuable to the visitor. If they're not you could harm your site.

Geographical targeting with Magento
Hello Maarten, I think you should consider using the rel alternate hreflang tags, as discussed here. If you need more background here is another great resource. And start following Aleyda Solis.

Javascript is redirecting search bots to mobile
Hello Shawn, Please see http://www.goinflow.com/mobile-optimization/ . It sounds like you need to do two things: 1. Use the VARY HTTP Header response. 2. Apply a rel canonical tag on the mobile version, which points to the desktop version.

Odd 404 pages
Hello John, I wouldn't assume that modernizr actually created a page. More likely, the relative path to the minified javascript file was found by Google in your source code, and Google tried to access it. Perhaps the path was wrong (e.g. /js/ exists off the root, not within that "/accidents..." folder) so when Google tried to access that resource it could not be found. I would leave it as-is if the URL produces a 404 status code. However, I would also find the code on that page and see whether it uses the correct path or not. You don't want to block those files, but you don't want Google wasting crawl budget on pages that don't exist either. If you can't figure out what's causing it I would contact the folks at modernizr. You can see their Twitter profiles at the bottom of this page: http://modernizr.com/ .

Google Seeing Way More Pages Than My Site Actually Has
Hey Max, I agree with Lesley here, Google is fetching your previous pages. You need to wait some time to see the latest result but for quick fixing, you can do these things, Run a Screaming Frog and see how many pages it shows. Copy all the links that google is showing into excel sheet and check each one. Block the extra pages through no index tag or redirect them to the relevant current pages if your have. For more information on the indexing and crawling, refer this useful latest WBF from Rand, https://moz.com/blog/controlling-search-engine-crawlers-for-better-indexation-and-rankings-whiteboard-friday Hope this helps!
