Chat through link building best practices and outreach techniques.

  • usually they don't have links from the same places so if you get all the links they have and more you have beaten them hands down, and then after that well I guess google is your friend

  • I want to say that I 100% agree with Ryan, but I will play devil's advocate. There is a time and place for everything, including black hat SEO.  If your goals are well-aligned with short term success, then black hat SEO is probably the cheapest and most effective option you have.  To me, link building isn't an ethical consideration, but a business decision.  If black hat tactics fit my goals, or my clients' goals, and everybody is aware of the risk involved and all of the options at play, then why not? There's no doubt about it - these are paid links, and as Ryan said, they will eventually be addressed by Google's Webspam team, and when that happens, you're going to lose a large share of your link portfolio (at best) or receive a penalty (at worst).  But there is no Matt Cutts fairy that haunts black hatters at night, preying on them as they dream of paid links and content farms.  It's economics, plain and simple.  I don't know what industry you are in or what your exact situation is, so it would be presumptuous of me to completely rule out black hat SEO strategies. That said, I've yet to encounter a situation where I've needed to resort to black hat tactics, for personal projects or client work.  Just sayin...

  • Thanks for the reply. I don't intended to promote them, thats why i didn't even posted urls until someone asked me. But i really wanted to know what are the factors to be considered in link building. As in earlier posts The Back burner told me that there will be many factors other that backlinks, DA and PA are there.  I would like to know in detail about them.

  • I think it depends how many explanations you need to put in and how long they are or how the information of more explanation needs to be compared to the other information. Plus, you have to factor in how flexible your site is, coding-wise and what your team can accomplish. Opening the link in a new window is great when you have a few things as it's easy to code. Plus, it's important to have in a new window if there's information the customer needs to compare from the explanation. (Like Rene mentioned, sizing charts for clothing.) You can also use a hover to show the information, but I'd only use it if the explanation is super short, like say a definition. The third option is having the page expand with the information when they click on it. Of course, this option will be the most technical to code.

  • SEO encompasses many things and it keeps changing. It's easier to understand all of the articles on this site when you can visualize the process step-by-step. That's why I recommended Dover's book. He covers the information from a consultant perspective. Watch all of the Whiteboard Fridays. You shouldn't need much background information to understand them. And most of them are only ten minutes a piece. http://www.seomoz.org/blog/category/33 Pay particular attention to Rand's Whiteboard Friday discussing the new Panda Update and what it means for SEO: http://www.seomoz.org/blog/how-googles-panda-update-changed-seo-best-practices-forever-whiteboard-friday

  • Not affiliated with these guys in any way, and haven't worked with them either, but I did once have a conversation with Nick from Killer Infographics (http://www.submitinfographics.com/KillerPortfolio.pdf). I haven't had a need for an infographic yet but they seemed like an interesting option. Please don't take this as an endorsement as I haven't tried them. I know they do concept to completion but I don't think they promote them, but isn't the idea of an infographic that they're fairly easy to promote anyway? Viral content and all that

  • Yea, you don't have to login in this case.  I think it could provide benefit to someone if the View Cart page were to come up in the Sitelinks when someone searches for the particular brand. I think I'll go ahead and remove from robots.txt. Thanks

  • Visual Economics pretty much explains it all. 97th Floor is the king of infographics if you ask me.

  • I agree with Anthony. This is a great topic. I went to nlpca.com and it wasn't until 2/3 of the way down the page that I actually read what NLP stands for. Granted, your target demographic may not be as naive, but a great infographic right off the bat would be a great opportunity to make it clear for people like me. I don't have any advice for making it spectacular, but you are on a great path. Let us know when you finish because I would love to see it.

  • Thanks for the reply, sorry it's taken me a while to respond. I've used a variety of PR sites for the best part of a year now so it seems strange that barely any of them are being picked up.

  • Just change the keyword at the end of this URL: wordpress.com/tag/cakes/ You'll also see related tags to the right.

  • OSE is being updated every 4-6 weeks so new links will be showed after the next update. The next update is scheduled on the 23rd August. You can check the update schedule here: http://seomoz.zendesk.com/entries/345964-linkscape-update-schedule OSE doesn't cover 100% of the Internet so that can be another reason why your links aren't showed. Read more about OSE here

  • I agree that californiahealthinsurance-quotes.com looks the most spammy. .Net is also often associated with spam. I would probably go with taylorbenefitsinsurance.com because that looks the most like a legitimate business.
