How to integrate two websites, post-merger?
Hi There , We had a similar situation with a client, who had used a separate website name for his company (with a DA 20) http://www.divvymaster.com/ and wanted to his website product separately on another website https://www.fairsplit.com/ We built the new website, 301 redirected all the old website right pages to their equivalent/ parallel pages on the new website. As for the main domain, we used explanatory links with text to explain the migration to the user. This had following impact. The old website divvymaster.com DA fell from 20 to 9. The new website authority is around 20 from 1 in 2.5 months. We are getting traffic for almost all the ranked keywords from earlier website plus more visibility on search engines for new keywords for the new website. So, we consider that we were able to pass the authority of the website. Having said that, we also did some good organic backlinking work for the new website. But I would recommend passing the authority to right pages with 301 and informing the users about the redirect on the right pages. Regards, Vijay

New site failing to rank - could this be why?
I can't see that being an issue, not one that would affect it that badly any way. Have you checked that Google is crawling the site correctly? Site set up in Google Webmaster Tools with no error messages? Double checking that all pages can be indexed and aren't being blocked in the robots.txt file is the best place to start. How new is the site?

A good experiment to test keyword/vertical difficulty?
Thanks. As mentioned, however, I'm really just looking for advice about a quick experiment i could perform (solid authority domain one may be possible, but would hope to try something else first).

DIsavow links even without a penalty?
I would try and be as on the ball as possible with disavowing links that need it, even if there has been no penalty. One of the first things I look to do when onboarding a new client is review the current disavow file (if there is one) or looking at their backlink portfolio to find potential spam. The spam tool on Moz is quite good at finding these links but make sure you cast your eye over them first as it's likely some good links will have got caught up in there. Just be careful - it's hard to come back from making a mistake with the disavow process!

How do you handle a site with inherited negative links, but no penalty?
If the links are low quality disavow them, better to be proactive rather than wait for a penalty then having to go through the process anyway.

OK to change the anchor text of a link?
If they crawl the article again, and notice that the anchor text has changed, then it could put up a red flag. Yes, indeed. I agree with Bernadette. Every site should have some anchor text diversity. It keeps you from looking like you are trying to manipulate the search engines. This particular anchor text, which is not exactly what you want, could actually be extremely beneficial if lots of your other links have highly optimized anchor text. I would not tweak this link. Google is watching.

Easiest Way to Balance Links Across Site?
In addition to Joe, I dont see any reason to buy cheap linkbuilding ( pardon me if misunderstood) However, i would stress on organic local citation as well as niche links must be earn by delivering such services. Moreover, try to avoid over optmisation of any keyword/page etc.
