I asked the same question to our SEO company and they came up with this answer: "In regards to your question, Google has explained that using paginated content, i.e. the rel="next" and rel="prev" tags, tells them that the two pages are part of a sequence. Therefore there is no need to have different titles or to noindex page 2. You won't receive any penalty for it." Which makes more sense to me, and this means that the SEOmoz reports are wrong to be flagging this up as a duplicate title?
