I've noticed a well ranked competitor is using 302 redirects to do what i'm after. Would this benefit me at all?

I appreciate your reply, in reply to your points;

1 - Sorry I wasn't clear on this, and completely wrote Anchor text when I actually meant the URL usually in the lower left hand corner which you mentioned in point two! Doh!

2 - I see what you're saying, I guess I just want nice clean URLS! Other issues have appeared such as

• Page Load time - Links are tracked currently on the site for impressions, therefore using a script and slowing the site down.
• Image size out of my hands - Images are hosted on the affiliates site and can be up to 80-100kb (which starts to take its toll on the page loads, although it doesn't sound a lot)
• Tracking the links in Analytics - If the links stay as they are, do you know of any solution to track? Never had to add a goal to an outbound link before now.

I feel like moving them to mysite.com/donford/link1 i'd be helping the above 3 points. On the other side of things, i'm assuming Google would see it as cloaking / hiding the url?

I have a website which is completely affiliate based.

What is the best option for the links on-page?

Examples would be:

• affiliate.website.com/12901730?2=3532523=user12342901730?2=3532523=user?Whittie
• www.website.com/affiliate=user?Whittie=load-of-tracking=date=blah=blaH?blah
• And So on...

Which look ugly as sin when you hover over the Anchor Text.

Ideally I would like a 301 redirect to mysite.com/goto/affiliatename, which would then have a rel nofollow.

This way I could also track the exit pages via Analytics too guess, which I've not currently got set up and i'm desperate for it to be done.

Does this method effect anything on search engines though? I've seen mixed report, but going back to 2011 which is too long ago in the SEO world.

Another option is to use the likes of "Bit.ly" or use another domain and host 301s on there? The new bit.ly integration from moz might come in handy here.

Please advise on the subject, I really appreciate any help on this, as i'm at a brick wall. Thanks

Within the .htaccess file, i've added

# 301 permanent redirect all .html to non .html

RewriteCond%{THE_REQUEST} \.html RewriteRule^(.*)\.html$ /$1 [R=301,L]

In short, i'm looking to redirect examplepage.html to examplepage .I've got rid of the .html, sitewide this morning. However I want to redirect Google & people who have bookmarked the old url structure.

Currently if you have the extension on or not, it will show in your browser.

I'm wanting /examplepage.html to 301 redirect to /examplepage

I've gone the normal way I'd do it by adding in .htaccess:

Redirect 301 /examplepage.html http://www.example.com/examplepage

I'm assuming it isn't redirecting as the example.html page is no longer... what is the way around this?

In firefox the error of the page is:

The page isn't redirecting properly

Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete.

I would personally try and move away from Wix, you'd be surprised at how easy it can be to create a website, even if you're not technically minded. I'm sure there's plenty of youtube videos / books that could help.

Once done, you're in a position to make your SEO as strong as possible, without limitations.

I'm wanting to keep the clean urls, so would you say 301s are the best way to combat this? As well as deleting all of the ".html" references within my website? Even though it would throw up errors within Dreamweaver etc?

I'm a big fan of clean urls. However i'm curious as to what you guys do, to remove them in a friendly way which doesn't cause confusion.

What looks better (in my eyes)
http://www.example.com/example1/
http://www.example.com/example2/
http://www.example.com/example3/

Do you keep extensions throughout your website, avoiding any sort of confusion and page duplication;

OR

Put a canonical link pointing to the extension-less version of each page, with the anticipation of this version indexing into Google and other Search Engines.

OR

301 Each page which has an extension to an extension-less version, and remove all linking to ".html" site wide causing errors within software like Dreamweaver, but working properly.

OR

Another way? Please emphasise

Last week various changes were carried out on a website which has large traffic daily.
The changes included;

• Re-structure of product meta titles ~500
• Re-structure of product meta description ~500
• Canonical link included on the majority of pages ~600

Meta details have only been changed mildly

Title has gone from
Name | Product Code | Category | Company Name
To
Name | Category | Collection | Company Name
IF the title is shorter than 62 characters, the price gets added in.
Name | Category | Collection | Price | Company Name

Descriptions have been cut shortIF description is over 156 characters the word on the limit is cut off and replaced with ...

Canonical LinksReasoning for adding a canonical link for each product was to point Google in the right direction.

• Upper and Lower case within the URL are reachable
• .aspx / .html at the end of each page
• Canonical link added in the meta directing to a lower case version of the URL.

Rankings have been reduced across various keywords, however a few have had a positive impact.

Would you say this is a dip before a mild rise, or something I've done is harming the rankings and needs to be reversed? I'd appreciate any advice given.
