RE: Setup WordPress with www in General -> Settings to get benefits of old links or does it matter?
Hi,
I would change the Wordpress settings and setup a 301 redirect from non-www to www using htaccess (if you're using Apache, see e.g. http://enarion.net/web/htaccess/redirect-www-and-no-www/ for instructions how to do this). Updating the sitemaps file and resubmitting it to Google Webmasters, and manually fetching the www-version of the website with the Google crawler in the webmaster tools would be my next steps. Google and the other bots will use this signals to update their databases.
Best regards,
Tobias

RE: Are xml sitemaps still in use today?
Hey Jason,
I wrote a tool myself years ago (phpSitemapNG in 2005) but haven't used, supported or further developed it since than.
What would be your requirements for the perfect sitemaps tool?

RE: Are xml sitemaps still in use today?
Hi Jason,
This sounds interesting. How do you generate the video sitemaps file - manually or by a tool?
Thanks for your feedback and input,

Hi Jenny,
Thanks for your input. I forgot about the seminar. I even registered but wasn't online when the webinar started.

Thanks for your feedback. Do the priority and the other optional values of the sitemaps file have any impact?

Are xml sitemaps still in use today?
Hi,
Are you still using XML sitemaps today? If yes, does it bring any benefit to your website like faster indexing of webpages or better rankings? Are you using special features like video sitemaps or sitemap index files?
Best regards,
Tobias

RE: Any Tips For putting up a new site and not loosing rankings?
Try if you can use the sitemap file of the old website (or e.g. from Google Webmasters / Analytics) and keep as much urls in the same format as possible (e.g. setting them via a script in the db of magento).
I normally create a .htaccess file containing the necessary 301 with a script or notepad++ (using regexp). But depending on the number of urls this might not be an option.
