What about allowing Google to index blog category and tag pages? I think it's still a bit of a grey area in SEO and I for one would really benefit from some additional input from you guys. Paul

RE: Should I prevent Google from indexing blog tag and category pages?
I have decided to add content to the tag and category pages to make them more valuable and reduce the risk of duplicate content issues. The pages also only feature short snippets from the posts so hopefully this shouldn't be too much of a problem with the addition of fresh content.
Thanks

Should I prevent Google from indexing blog tag and category pages?
I am working on a website that has a regularly updated Wordpress blog and am unsure whether or not the category and tag pages should be indexable.
The blog posts are often outranked by the tag and category pages and they are ultimately leaving me with a duplicate content issue. With this in mind, I assumed that the best thing to do would be to remove the tag and category pages from the index, but after speaking to someone else about the issue, I am no longer sure. I have tried researching online, but there isn't anything that provided any further information.
Please can anyone with any experience of dealing with issues like this or with any knowledge of the topic help me to resolve this annoying issue.
Any input will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

RE: A tool to submit websites in directories
Directory Maximiser seems pretty good - you can add multiple variations of submission titles and descriptions and there is a list of the directories they submit to on the website.
This service is very cost effective at around £6 per 50 submissions, and you can also pay around £0.01p extra per submission for them to set up an email address and manage the confirmation emails too.
They also have a service called 'Social Maximiser' which is a social bookmarking submission service with a similar pricing structure.
Does anyone have any experience of using this service? A few different people have recommended it to me.

RE: Social or SEO?
I would say that social bookmarking is part of SEO and social media - it is effectively an element of social media, but it is also commonly used within link-building strategies.
Also, with social signals now included within Google's ranking criteria, SEO and social media are becoming even more closely connected.

RE: Promoting linkbait
I would also recommend trying incentivised placement - so providing an incentive for someone with a substantial following to place or advertise your linkbait on their website.
This theory also works with people who are influential within social channels too.
