Conversion Rate Benchmarking and Optimization
Every Channel is different. We benchmark at 6% for 1 company and are wrapped to hit 1% for another. We have a niche product/client at 14%. If there was a standard - I would suggest in the range of 2-4%. All that said it really comes down to on site behavior - where are they dropping off? Is it the landing page - Why ? Is it the checkout page? Why? I would be very very carefully monitoring each page interaction. Find out what makes them click and what does not. Then make adjustments accordingly. Have you considered Optimizely or Unbounce? Not a fan of either but they are good at promoting themselves and many do rate them. If you have the budget I would spend some time trying to find out why people drop off, via survey and analytic's. Some very small improvements can make a massive difference. Nice little article. http://tinyurl.com/nomws53 Hope that assists.

How can I fully take advantage of press coverage to aid my SEO efforts?
Hi Jarno, This happened some time ago and I actually exited the business. In hindsight, what you commented on was exactly correct. At the launch of the business, I had 0 brand queries. A year later, I had over 2000 monthly brand queries. What happened was that the press covered us in print, but we also became a 'resource' for the reporters. Every time they had a question or were writing an article for something related, for example seasonal trends in classes, or newly popular classes, they reached out to us and would often quote us in their articles. Interestingly as well, offline articles in the newspapers eventually made their way online and when i found these articles indexed as well, I reached out to my new-found contacts there and they were glad to link the company's name over to the site.

Keyword Cannibalization? My home page is ranking higher for a keyword that another page is targeting
First, I'd say it is quite normal for your homepage to outrank interior pages, even when the interior page is much more specifically optimized for the term. Here are some thoughts: Make sure there is a link straight to the Cooking section above the fold on the homepage Do you have sitelinks yet in your Google results? If so, you can demote any that are less relevant... and make sure to leave the cooking/baking sitelinks in place. https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/47334?hl=en I would focus on adding content in the cooking section. Beyond posts about specific classes, can you come up with a new page or 2 of general cooking content to add each month? Overall, it appears the site is very new. A steady flow of new content to the categories, along with the effects of time, should get you the results you are looking for.
