Back links in Question after Penguin 2
Hi Jonathan I'm going to be blunt here - I'd fire that SEO immediately. Not only are these links not strong in terms of SEO, but they come from completely irrelevant websites (do you really want links from a porn wikipedia?), they are embedded in completely irrelevant content (http://www.globalrugbynetwork.com/blog/view/31837/blinds talks about back pains and then has exact match links to your site), the kind of links built are solely for search engines, and the content itself looks absolutely crap and doesn't read well at all. There are a number of black flags here that say to Google - this site is building links to try and game the algorithm and make its organic visibility better. That's the intent anyway, the reality is that you have a spammy link profile that actually won't be providing this benefit at all. I would actually be proactive and try and get the SEO to remove those links ASAP. Failing that, I would make a note of them to add to a disavow file, although if these are the only bad links I wouldn't submit/upload the file just yet, as it likely won't make that much of a difference. Should the SEO in question continue on this path, however, you'd have a massive problem. Apologies for the pessimistic prognosis, but better to be up front and honest with these things so you can start taking action.

Bullet points good or bad for seo?
I've found that people like bullet points... gives them quick information without needing to read the rest of your content. Of course the problem arises of duplicate content when you use the same bullets over a large amount of products or all you do is change a word or two between every page. If the bullets are all the same then what's the value of them to the user? Bullet points (like all content) should be relevant and fresh. They should highlight the specific advantages of that product, i.e. what makes it special/different/unique/important/worth buying?

Backlinks for the same IP address
I'd tend to agree - this used to be a bigger deal, but as IPv4 space runs low and more and more sites share IP addresses, Google has had to be more forgiving. I'm slightly concerned that the 20 domains are all duplicated, though - that could start to look like a link network. If it's just one site and you have a solid link profile, it's probably no big deal. In most cases, Google would just filter those links and they might even filter the domains (basically, they'd be ignored). If you're seeing this situation repeat itself, though, that's a different matter.

A Lot of Duplicate Meta Descriptions
Hi Jonathon, Well yes the big meta desc text is an issue, not great for google but even worse for user experience in term of a nice targeted description texts that show up in the serps and entice searchers to click on your site rather than the others. So you want a nice clear call to action text that says in 156 characters or less why users should check out your site (or more specifically this particular category/page of your site). Have a look at this serp preview tool, it is really useful: http://www.seomofo.com/snippet-optimizer.html As to the technical implementation, it sounds like you have a custom template in use and the description text is being put into the meta desc field also. It is an easy fix for you or your developer to switch that over to using the category meta desc field from the magento admin instead. Hope that helps.

Is Back Link Building still Good Practice
I'm in a similar positiand if not worse link wise. I have been trying the "link bait article" method. Been creating rich content with videos, images and long form quality content and it seems to be working. It's early days yet but traffic is rising. As yet conversions are not up and no links but it has only been 2-3 weeks since our first good articles went live and they are ranking well and driving traffic. The thing I noticed is that if I add a video to the content and submit video site map to google I get it on page 2-3 in about 20 mins! Epic speed at climbinthump the SERP's.
