Hi CathyWix, I would check the backlinks going to the negative pr articles. It may be the new articles and links you built are not good enough to overpower the articles that are negative. Are the negative pr backlinks of editorial level or higher? You might need to get some good press, there may not be enough good pr articles or the good pr articles are only generated by you. Generally if you are looking to get good pr you will need others to write articles in high ranking editorial publications to overcome bad pr. Thanks, Don Silvernail

Have you seen this related question? You can edit your .htaccess file to remove the trailing slash everywhere. Or, if you want to enforce the trailing slash and you're using Yoast, you can do that with one check of a checkbox. Either should be fine, but I think you have the right idea planning to remove all trailing slashes since that's how external links reference your site.
