I had just made a 301 re-direct on one of our product pages which had a PR of 4, now that Google has indexed the new page, it's now got a PR of 0, i'm struggling to understand why this could be, i know that you may see a drop of 1, which has happened in the past, but this drop just does not make sense.

Any ideas of why this could be?

      Kind Regards

It takes at least 3 months for Google to replenish and attribute Page Rank.

A better indicator for you would be to wait for SEOMoz Linkscape to recrawl (usually every 45 days), and then check your PA (Page Authority) on this.

301 redirects usually have faultless carry over of Authority. But studies have shown that usually about 91% of Page Authority carries over. Matt Cutts himself has hinted at this.

        Cheers.

          Thanks for the speedy response.

Will just have to wait then for the change 🙂

Just another quick question please. After doing the 301, is it best practice that all internal links are pointing to the new URL, rather than relying on the 301?

Oh! sorry just another one. Deleting the old page, when should this be done? my only concern with deleting this is external links and bookmarks etc.

          Kind Regards

            1. Yes, once you have done your redirects make sure all internal links point to the new URLs

            2. Leave the old page to exist so that link juice is allowed to flow from backlinks. Leave for at least a year. Probably longer in the case of bookmarks.
