Pointing additional domains at your main one
-
I have two questions:
- I have bought a domain that is a misspelled version of my domain. I have created an A record with DNS provider to point to my main domain's IP and on my main site I modified .htaccess file to make a 301 redirect if referrer is that misspelled domain.
- I also bought an expired domain with some relevant backlinks. I intend to create a simple page for that domain and add a link to my main site.
Which of those two approaches are best from SEO point of view?
Thanks

Personally, I wouldn't have bothered with purchasing the misspelled version of your domain. WRT the backlinks, list which specific pages in the site they point to, then point those pages to relevant pages on your existing site using 301 redirects.

I would recommend 301 re-directing the purchase domain with relevant backlinks. Have you checked the spam score of the websites pointing to that domain? It is important to do some research and make sure that site has no manual penalties or backlink profile issues such as PBN's and a lot of backlinks in a short period of time.
If the domain is clear of that, then I would 301 re-direct to your money page and get the link juice from that domain. It isn't necessary to create a page that will backlink to you if you could re-direct the link juice directly to your money site.
Hope this helps!

Piggy back on Colemckeon reply. If the purchased domain backlinks are spammy, just disavow them.

If there are any topical authoritative links, reach out to the webmaster by email or call and ask to change the URL to yours. More than likely they will comply. I doubt this may be the issue but you never know.
