Is there a specific reason why you don't want to use WordPress? We use WordPress with most of our new website builds, and we are pretty happy with it, as it is a CMS that is well supported. There are options, such as Joomla, Concrete5, etc. You might try your search here, I recommend something that uses PHP:

Hi Kristen,
If you're "just" a user who doesn't want to play around with plugins and tuning things up yourself, Squarespace is the solution for you (SEO-wise).
There are other options like Drupal , you can get a complete list here http://www.toptenreviews.com/business/internet/best-content-management-system-software/
However even Matt Cutts uses WordPress for his blogging

I hope this helps, let me know if you have further questions.
