Display Advertising & Nurturing Funnels

Hey all,

Please feel free to impart your wisdom, I'm in a bit of a pickle and I could use your help.

I'm struggling with my display advertising channel. I think it has a lot to do with our almost non-existent nurturing funnel but I'm trying to see if there are other marketers who have struggled with the same type of situation. My Google rep is talking about GSP (Gmail Sponsored Promotion) as an option for bringing in more traffic but I'm concerned it'll have the same problem as display.

Does anyone have any experience here either good or bad? Does a strong nurturing funnel make the difference with regards to these more outbound related marketing channels?
