      Hey,

In webmaster tools i have 520 domains linking to my site and i disavowed some today, when i was done it said "you successfully uploaded a disavow links file with 75 URLs and 0 domains". First question, did i do this right? Second question if a site is linking to me on multiple pages on their site do i have to disavow each link or just the domain is enough. When i download the all links to my site it was around 5,000 from the 520 domains. I appreciate the help.

Lots of information on disavow errors in Moz member, Marie Haynes' article, published today at SearchEngineWatch.com.

          1. It says URL because you entered the exact page of where your link is on. If you want to disavow the whole domain since it is bad anyway, then just use

domain:thatbaddomain.com instead of the full url

          2. use the domain code above.

If you want an easier way to cut to root domains, then use scrapebox, SEO Tools for excel or http://www.seoweather.com/trim-urls-to-root-domain-standardise-urls-prefixes/

          Hope that helps! 🙂

If you got the "successfully uploaded" message then this means that your disavow file was in the right format and Google is able to read it.

"if a site is linking to me on multiple pages on their site do i have to disavow each link or just the domain is enough."

If you've disavowed on the domain level (i.e. domain:example.com) then that's all you need to do.  You should be disavowing on the domain level for each site too.  It's rare that I'll just disavow one url.

One other thing I'd like to point out is that your disavowed links will still remain in Webmaster Tools. A lot of people think that they disappear once they're disavowed but they don't.
