SSL/Secure websites

Hi all

Wondering if anyone could give me a pointer please. Bit stumped by a question from a client and Google search has confused me even more!!

My client are about to launch a couple of small retail websites, on the same server and the same ip. They want to make these secure as they will have user data and so plan on purchasing ssl certificate.

The question they have asked me, is..does a ssl certificate cover just one domain or does it cover an ip address and therefore both sites could run under the same one?

Anyone got experience in this please?

Sorry should have used the search, was on mobile at time and moz doesn't seem to work too well on a blackberry. Time to get a proper phone, maybe..
