Ok, I am getting a lot of conflicting information about press release sites. i have been doing press release's for a while (mostly manually), I have also tried a few companies that claim to do it well (never do). After the Panda update the PR sites I have been using are just not as effective. Does anyone else have this problem or are there better PR sites that can be recommended.

        Hi...

The ability of gaining an SEO advantage by utilizing article sites, and to a lesser extent PR sites, was all but abolished by the Panda/Farmer updates.  It can be disheartening since many spent so much time, money, and effort trying to get a leg up producing content for these sites.

Only Google knows for sure, but my speculation is that certain PR sites are better than others, and the ones I am thinking about usually are of the paid variety.  The need for payment usually prevents spammers from utilizing the service, and from the things I have read, these paid PR sources end up sending the PR's to quality sites that have high local and organic authority.

My guess is that MANY people have had this problem, and it is time to build better content on local sites and social media, and build strong relationships that will help build trust and authority.

The more I learn about SEO, the more I realize it's all about the basics, and doing them correctly.

        Best of luck.

Press release sites should have been, and should always in the future, be about sending out a press release, not "farming for links".

Having said that, a well crafted press release, with a maximum of one or two links in the content, can provide value still to this day from an SEO perspective.  To the degree of previous years? No.  Enough to warrant, yes, from a sustainable SEO best practices perspective, because a full arsenal of efforts is what appears to be most natural to search engines.  And that's vital.

The best way to make a press release effective is to have a media or blogger read it, and call you. I would work on establishing relationships with those people via twitter and blogs, and then sending a link to the press release.  One good link on a radio, TV or high level blog is far more valuable than what you are suggesting.

I think the days of using many, many type web tactics to build links are fading.  we need to think like PR people.

I know, this isn't much help.  To answer your question directly, assuming your release has some merit besides links, I would use the sites the pro's use like www.marketwire.com/
