Wordtracker - Should I?
-
For keyword search volume and competition to replace Keyword Research Tool (that's a unique situation, eh?), is Wordtracker a sound choice? The more I research, the less I feel I know! I'm finished with my 7-day trial and am on the verge of committing to an annual contract.
- Is their data pool sufficient?
- Are there better, comparable tools out there? I only need volume and competition.
- I would combine this tool with AdWords and Moz.
Thanks!

There are great alternatives and none come close to the amount of info Google itself provides, even though now Keyword Planner is an inferior service to some.
But wordtracker still has a free version: https://freekeywords.wordtracker.com/sign_in/
Also other big guys out there: http://www.ducttapemarketing.com/blog/2013/09/13/keyword-tools/
Hope this helps

SEOSarah,
IMO, the keyword planner is different than the keyword tool, but I do not see it as inferior on the whole. Yes, it annoyed me too that Google changed it.
As to what would I use, I would use the Keyword planner and work with it enough that I began to understand it's nuance. As to SAS for keyword research, there is a lot out there and there is no way I would do an annual contract with any. We have a lot of software we pay for monthly, I rarely use any SAS for a year commitment as they are able to change what they offer and you keep paying. I have used SpyFu, Wordtracker, SEMrush, enterprise software, etc. and all have limits.
I would suggest you ask whether or not it meets your needs and try it for a few months. If you fall in love then commit if it saves you money. If you have not tried many, I would try one for a month, another a month, etc. and pay for the month so you have access to all the tools. that is the only way you know you love it or not.Hope that assists your efforts,
Robert

Thanks Robert. That's exactly what I plan to do.

SEO Sarah,
I'm also considering WordTracker, and was wondering... now that it's been about a year since you posted this... have you found it useful? If not... what did you do instead?
