Google Display Help - Showing main categories? (Using WordPress and Yoast SEO)
-
I was looking over my website's search results and have no clue on how to make it appear on the front page of Google with the different sections displaying underneath.
I attached a picture of Amazon's search results and mine. I am the top hit when searching "Living the College Life" since that is my websites name and would like to have different important pages/categories underneath.
We are using wordpress and have Yoast SEO plugin installed where he allows you to rank each page. Not sure if that has anything to do with it.

These links are called sitelinks and they are auto generated by Google. The only thing you can do to help that is a good on page optimization, with the right anchor text and alt tags and a well generated sitemap.

Just checked your sitemap and it is not correctly configured. Check the google sitemap generator plugin and see what is wrong. Try to get the sitemap to be generated in xml and placed in http://livingthecollegelife.com/sitemap.xml. That will help with SEO and getting your sitelinks.

Thanks for the insight! I didn't know they were called site links. I have Yoast SEO for wordpress and it gives me a lot of flexibility in labeling my pages for my site map.
It's frustrating though because he doesn't say much about the site maps. I'm confused on how to adjust the importance of pages. He gives that option. I'm not sure what to do at all....

By the error that is showing in the sitemap.xml looks like the plugin is "google-sitemap-generator".
Try deactivating this plugin and asking yoast to rebuild the sitemap.
Just keep the default yoast seo configurations for the sitemap and you will be good to go...
