Creating Interactive Tools

Hi i'm interested in learning more on how to create interactive tools for content purposes as Rand mentioned in this video - http://www.seomoz.org/blog/how-to-win-a-content-arms-race-whiteboard-friday

Is there any good resources out there which dive into the process e.g. how to go from the idea of the tool, to creation, design, programming, etc?

Or just anything on creating cool interactive tools.

The idea itself is very creative and profitable if you can really come up with a tool that actually help with content and not just promises...

As far as the resources for tool is concern i don’t really see any detailed resource for it but personally I think it should start with drafting an idea on the paper in detail which discusses the plan, target marketing, technical details, costing, marketing plan and time duration this whole process will take...

There are tons of thing you have to bring on the paper like a complete business plan and then move towards creating a team and prototype of the product to convince investors to invest in your idea...
