You are going to use a 301 redirect of old to new. Be sure this is done correctly based on what environment you are working in (.net, LAMP, etc.) Here is a link for all from WebConfs that is also on moz.

Be aware, you really need to do this url to url and, if you are going from http to https, you have to be careful with how you go and make sure you check each to insure they are all resolving. This is usually fixed by limiting what is https, etc.

If you do this correctly, most say you will lose up to 10 % of your link juice. Given that we have done a few, I would say that I would be surprised to see you lose even 2%. One suggestion i would give just from a learning point of view is to run the site and get a list of all your links, PA, etc. as it is today. Then do the 301 and run both domains every week. It is interesting to watch and gives you an understanding of what is happening. IMO.

        Best

I just wanted to add a quick point.  If there is any chance that the client is moving the domain because the old domain was affected by Penguin or an unnatural links penalty then don't do any redirecting from the old to the new.

The client had the site on . me domain and now he has got the proper .co.uk domain hence want to move to .co.uk .
