Can re-directs decrease your rankings??

Hi Guys,

I need some advice here please - I have the chance to put some links on a few websites to my website in hope it will help with my rankings..

BUT - I have noticed that the webstites are being re-directed to another websites.. so my questions is ; Can re-driects decrease your rankings??

Gareth-

redirects can decrease your rankings but if done correctly it will be a minimal amount. Typically a 301 redirect will pass between 90-99% of the link juice of a page to the new page. Pretty good...not great. Shouldnt create a huge difference in rankings for your site if it is one page.

What I find is people lose ranking when they do redirects incorrectly. One of the best posts I have read on this is in SEOMOZ. Here is the link:
