My website is www.eyeforweb.com and we are going to launch www.eyeforweb.ca soon. Should we do so on the same server (same IP address) or choose a different one so that Google doesn't notice same IP address for two sites?

        Hi,

It will very clear to Google the two sites are related, simply from the URLs and similar content alone. With eyeforweb.com being hosted in the US, and you may want to boost your Canadian rankings by hosting the site in Canada.

I'd certainly recommend, depending on the overlapping content between the two sites, that you implement the rel alternate tag as well - http://support.google.com/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=189077 - it can be a bit tricky, but it's worth it.

        Hope this helps,

        Mark

The only reason to get a different IP would be to host your site IN Canada. You don't have to do that, but it can help some.

Your ccTLD means that Google will recognize the sites are geotargeted. As Matt Cutts said, spammers really don't bother with ccTLDs (especially .ca, which is pretty restricted) so Google will generally figure out that duplicates are geotargeted.

Both the sites (.com and .ca) will have entirely different content. Only the portfolio will remain same, but they are already nofollow links.

Thus except the name and design everything else will be quite different in both the websites.

Even then you suggest not to host them on the same IPs?

Why are you launching the .ca site - to target Canada, right? So then it pays to get any advantage you can to rank in Canada, and so whatever advantage the Canadian hosting will have, isn't it worth it to go after that?

okay so since a Canadian host will help in SEOing the website for the Canadian market, you suggest it makes sense to go for a Canadian host rather than a US host where the .com site sits.

Cool. Definitely  makes sense. Thanks for the suggestion.

I will say while I don't go this way necessarily I think linking to yourself for gain is kind of well very blackish gray hat. I of course do not mean if you start a company that has at least something about it that is relevant to your other companies website. But if you are just setting up servers so you can link to each other I frown, personally. However you asked so use the host like this and I doubt you really are to do anything that is not in best practices so I would recommend http://www.cclassiphosting.com/

"The SEO Hosting was primarily set up for the use of Search Engine Optimization. This is a different type of webhosting where the Hosting companies provide a different set of IPs on the data servers that are located in different places. These IP's have separate Control Panel and server for each website. This goes to help the webmasters by providing privacy for each of their websites. In this manner, they are able to achieve backlinks from sites that do not have the same IP address.

You may ask what the C class of IPs is. Well, every website has an IP address. Some have dedicated while others share the IP address. A typical IP address such as 218.236.78.12 has four sets. A, B, C, D. The 78 is the C class of IP. This is the part of the IP address that determines the location. If two websites contains different C blocks they are considered to be two different websites in two different location. This is the basic idea behind the SEO hosting. The webmasters are able to get backlinks from different websites and hence create a cheap solution to their cluster of websites."

Zunicore was developed by PEER 1 Hosting—among the most respected and fastest-growing names in the world of server hosting. As such, it enjoys all the benefits of PEER 1 Hosting's 18 datacenters and wholly-owned FastFiber Network™, including NOC monitoring, CDN and SAN—not to mention the parent's legendary standard of customer service, as embedded in a suite of exacting SLAs.

As of right now I am hosting with WPengine, Zunicore (part of peer1's new cloud it's really good) http://www.peer1.com/cloud-hosting/cloud-servers , I'll to must say I love http://www.singlehop.com/ SingleHop those everything right however I have to use the Akamai CDN via rack space not bad I host of Rack Space as well. I have accounts with a page.ly however they offer no telephone support I found that somewhat not up to par with $50 a month single domain hosting, liquid Web they are outstanding in customer support much like rack space and single hop however unlike them they do offer a very competitive shared hosting plan that gives you the ability to get your own IP. Last but certainly not least media Temple I know of many people who strong views on this company. I can tell you with absolute certainty I have been using them for over 4 years they have some problems but. Are better than most hosts. Fact is you get what you pay for if you are going to build your own link farm you're shooting yourself in the foot I don't think you're not really thinking of doing that so I have given you the domain I would recommend for or more the type of IP's are looking for. However most honest people today just want a solid web hosting with 24 7 service and excellent speed. My suggestion to use to go that route. If not I hope I've been of help to you either way and please don't think I was implying that you were. Anything wrong at all I would agree with the other gentleman that if you post a 2nd domain in Canada with a .ca and use the same content Google will penalize you severely for it. If I can make a recommendation if you want to capture people would that .ca website have it forward or 301 redirect to your regular .com site. I sincerely hope I have been of some help to you. I'll so would recommend using Google apps free or paid your choice but 10 free boxes from a 2nd hosting provider like Google is never a bad thing. I myself use exchange 2010 primarily I love it however my e-mail host intermedia kind of overcharges a lot everything you do you get charged for updating things it's ridiculous.

                    All the best,

                    Thomas

I wanted to tell you I did not realize you actually bring different content on the site I'm very glad to hear that. I would not really worry too much about using use the same IP's. A host that is outstanding in Canada and the United States and back by Pier 1 which I know most people here will probably back me on being one of the best hosts out there is Zunicore was developed by PEER 1 Hosting—among the most respected and fastest-growing names in the world of server hosting. As such, it enjoys all the benefits of PEER 1 Hosting's 18 datacenters and wholly-owned FastFiber Network™, including NOC monitoring, CDN and SAN—not to mention the parent's legendary standard of customer service, as embedded in a suite of exacting SLAs. https://www.zunicore.com/

Using this service you can put them both on the same cloud have great service and speed then just pay extra $2 month for different IP. Just so you know the whole services  around $31 a great price if you asked me. Considering you get a CDN even DDoS attack protection. I think this is some pretty cool data for everyone

                      https://www.zunicore.com/pdfs/woozworld_cloud_provider_benchmarks.pdf

                      PS

I a just took a look at your site and I like it a lot it seems that you're very green you may want to look at the host like this these guys they are 100% solar or green

Here is the link to eco-host review

                      http://ecohostreviews.com/

                      http://greengeeks.com/vps-hosting/vps-hosting.php

                      http://www.mygreenhosting.com/green-data-center.php

though what I found is many other hosting companies are hundred percent green powered however they do not name themselves after it or advertisers is much. I would look at PEER 1I know they are on top of things and do a killer job all the best man.

                      Hope this helps,

                      Thomas
