howdy, I have a basic question about using content found on other websites for your own use.

I have started a pick up lines website for guys to search for pickup lines to use on girls. Anyways, my website has many, if anything a lot, of the same exact pick up lines as all my competitors are using.

If I use the same pick up lines found on their site could i be penalized for this as far as SEO?

thanks and hope to hear back

Hi David, First of all I want to tell you about the copying an extract of the article, content from other websites  and using the same content to your own website, this means that it is a breach of copyright. You can only copy material if you have the explicit consent of the originator, or those who own the rights to the material.

Just provided a link back to the originators site doesn't compensate them for the hard work and effort that they put into their work. Some people are cool to share their work.

If you really like something email the author and ask for permission. If you do not want to email the author then write up your opinion about the content and link to it. You can quote them but it should not be the majority of your post.

yea i understand that, but a pick up line isnt something you can copy wright, its like trying to copyright a joke. most pick up lines are cliche' and are ALL over the internet.

First of all David you have to check the content that you had copied. It has been checked through various duplicate content checker tool & see the result. If the result is more than 20% then change the content because it affects your site as far as SEO is concerned.

I'm sending you a link  which solves the duplicate content & also contains the duplicate content checker tool.
