Difference between root domain and sub-domain linking?

There is a few opinions on sub-domain receiving some juice from the root domains. In regards to my experience with both, I would say a Sub-Domain is like another domain. There is not much of a difference. They should be linked has another domain would be.
As for tracking on SEOmoz, you should just track it as another domain would be. This will give you all the subdomain metrics you need.

Hi Dotline,
There might be a glitch in the metrics you're looking at. For whatever reason, I'm seeing your numbers light up across the board in Open Site Explorer for all metrics on the subdomain. Check it out.

Here's what I think happened. Sometimes OSE will drop the "www" from a domain, especially when you click through from the toolbar. Since the "www" is the subdomain, dropping it could return 0's for the subdomain metrics.
(does that make sense? technically www.dotline.com and dotline.com are 2 different subdomains. Here's a post by Rand that explains it better: http://www.seomoz.org/blog/understanding-root-domains-subdomains-vs-subfolders-microsites)
Regardless, it looks like everything is good now. Let us know if you have any trouble. Best of luck with your SEO!
