Tips For Writing A Mission Statement?

I'm getting ready to write up a mission statement for my new ecommerce website.  I feel like I really need to set the tone of what we are all about.

Just wondering if anyone has any general tips for writing mission statements?

It's great to be at the beginning with a blank slate!

Here are a few ideas for you:

1. Use the mission statement to explain in broad terms what need you are going to fill. Don't be too specific - your strategy may change. If you don't think that you could show someone the same mission statement in 10 years and still be relevant to your company, you're too specific.
2. Think big.
3. You should be able to hand your mission statement to someone who has never heard of your company and he should be able to see what type of company you plan to be and why you want to be in business.
