      Hi Guys,

Our website has some really good serps for our established keyword phrases some of which are quite competitive. We recently acquired and have begun selling some new brands through our online shop and launched new pages for these brands around 2 months ago. They are quite competitive ("merrell shoes" and "timberland boots" for example in google.co.uk) terms. Do you think we should get some keyword rich links built into these new pages from external sites such as blogs - or is there chances of ranking well driven more off our overall site authority/link profile?

In other peoples experience, what is a typical realistic timeframe to start getting meaningful serps on new pages/keyword phrases (I know that is hard to answer - but ball parks figures appreciated).

      Thank you everyone in advance.

Kind Regards (and happy thanksgiving to our US friends)
      Conrad Cranfield

        Hello Conrad,

I think getting links from external sites to your new pages have never caused any trouble: both increases your overall domain authority, carries anchor text value to the specific pages so speeds up ranking process for specific terms and maybe gets in some extra visitors. I would definately look after some links to get from external sources to my important content.

Ranking process is hard to tell. I often see my rankings improving couple of months after a new page is added to my site. However one thing is sure: if you have not gained meaningful rankings so far than adding those links is a great idea.

          Hello Conrad,

It's really hard to determine how long it takes for a certain page to rank..it depends on a lot of factors..Some of them are: domain age-root domain link profile - on page factors - links to that page with optimized anchor text etc etc/

I think you should try and get good quality links to the homepage and the category pages you want to rank for, diverse the anchor text..i.e. don't have 20.000 links pointing to one page with the same anchor text.

In order to speed up rankings you need social accelerators in place  i.e. tweeter campaign strategies that will enable you to target the pages you want and receive a lot of retweets which could help you rank high.

          Hope this helps

          Ari
