How Do You Build Good Quality Content on an E-Commerce Site with over 1500 products?
-
I've been told for a while now that quality is king, and as far as the top level down goes, I have improved the quality of these pages incredibly, working from the landing page down to the categories. Now the problem comes when I know that if I describe each product dynamically with great content, this give the best result, yet doing this on over 1500 products is just a mammoth task for anyone, isn't it? I want a way to have good quality content on each of those pages without writing a million words.... is this possible?

hello,
Did you have a chance to watch the first 20 minutes of Will Renolds Preso here at SEO moz...I think its called smoking hot content creation...Or something like that...he has a few ecommerce examples right out of the gate...I have used them already and they work well...So far!

I think your problem here is going to be that it will be an almost impossible task to write 1500 different articles. What might be a solution for you is write good articles for each categorie and put the product names with in the articles.

Do you have a link to that vid?

I have a client with a similar problem with over 6k individual products on an e-commerce site using manufacturers descriptions.
I think we have decided to 'bit the bullet' and get a resource to start writing unique content on these pages, starting with the most popular and working that way. The initial work will be to add a 'Our View' or 'Our Description' to each product to go above the manufacturers spec.
We also implemented customer reviews for individual products which build up unique and related content.

Get your customers to write content in the form of reviews.
prioritize and do the important ones first
put information on the category pages.
There is no magic bullet, It is a long term process. You will spend hours writing content, and it will slowly pay off over time.

To be honest with you Eugene, it was watching Wil's video that spurred this question, Wil does give a solution in one way, but i feel that, his method just wouldnt work for what we do, and we have already actually written all articles for our categories, so its just knowing where to turn next?
