We have decided to move some thin content from our primary domain to an independent domain in order to lift the panda penalty. Does anyone have suggestions for how to avoid being seen as a doorway page? Thank you in advance.

I am trying to understand your logic here.

If the content is thin, then the best approach would be to spend some time and improve the quality of your content. If you don't wish to do such, and you feel the content does not add value to your site, then simply remove the content.

Does anyone have suggestions for how to avoid being seen as a doorway page?

Absolutely! Provide unique, quality content on the page. Then there is no chance it will be seen as a doorway page.

I agree with Ryan.  Improve the content.   If you dip crap in chocolate, it is still crap.

My logic is that the content isn't that bad, and has potential for improvement. It currently drives 30% of organic traffic to the site and accounts for 75% of the total urls. At the moment, we just want to get out from under the Panda penalty, and work on improving the content in the future. Moving it to its own url seems like the best option until can improve it later.
