Is it okay to create a landing page with a different url to get additional traffic to my site with ppc?  The purpose would not be for link building; I would only use it for direct marketing with ppc and people would click through to my main site via a no-follow link.  Is there anything wrong with doing this?

Nothing at all, one thing though, don't nofollow the link, just use the meta noindex attribute on that individual page.

Spend some money and get an expert involved in creating this page with you, as PPC landing page optimization is an important part of running an online marketing compaign

          This is a PERFECT strategy!

          Why?

Landing pages created for SEO and helping visitor navigate your site often have too many diversions and characteristics that distract PPC visitors who you hope will convert.

Typical PPC landing pages place greater emphasis on your product and less on links to other parts of your website.

We do this all the time, we have hundreds of high converting keywords and in order to increase our quality score and more importantly visual relevance for the visitor we create many ppc landing pages, each one with the keyword as the title and content optimised for that subject matter. This has a positive affect on out conversion rates, bounce rates etc. Because this sector is so expensive (debt and loan) it is vital for us that our visitor knows straight away he has landed on a page that closely matches his search term, especially when you are looking at £15 per click. As mentioned in other replies, make sure you include the no index tag.
