Google considers some companies "brands" or stronger "brands" than other sites. What are the best ways to show Google you are an actual brand, not a fly by night eCom?

Address and number on your site is a good start

There was a pro webinar on this in February - you might want to check it out. http://www.seomoz.org/webinars/what-signals-could-make-you-a-brand-in-google

Verified/verifyable address and phone (claim your local listings - Google/Bing/Yelp/etc.)  - also Business affiliations (BBB, Chamber of Commerce etc.),  being in an official business (recorded by civic/government registry), citations, branded searches,   social presence (active and well-followed FB/Twitter/etc.) - to name a few.

I consider a site is  passing the "I'm brand" level when google will display site links. That' susualy based on incoming links - authority overall.

So in my personal opinion to get there you need a few powerful, " patient zero " links (very very high authority sites that will link to you - in that category I also include facebook.com, linkedin, twitter and digg - that's a good place to start). You also need several additional niche related strong links in order to "qualify".

That is my personal view on the brand signal thingy. Hope it helps.
