Do alt tags really give you a boost in terms of ranking or is it more for ranking in google images ?

Hi there!

Alt tags are mostly for google images. It is really hard to test whether it impacts in web/mobile normal search.
Even that, it's considered one point of page optimization as you are giving google bot a hint of the topic and what about that page.
My advise, always try to optimize alt text tags and be careful not to make it keyword spammy.
