We are working on catching up with some competition, who has done a much better job over the last few years with content creation. We normally publish 1 article a day but are looking at scaling that up to 3 to 4 articles a day so we can get our content out there to compete with the other websites, in keyword space we currently aren't in. Is there a negative impact on publishing too much content at once?

Besides the probable inability to market all of it, I don't see any issues since we will be getting our articles indexed and out there for Google to start building value on them. However, some team members are apprehensive about doing too much at once.

What are your thoughts Moz Community?

        Hi Jonathan,

There's no issue in publishing content as it's ready.

Check our Rand's WBF from last week where he says the publishing frequency doesn't exist.

If it's good content covering new topics for your site, you can only see good results.

        Cheers,

        David

I would look first at how my existing content is competing.  Is it delivering traffic, making conversions, whatever your goals for the content might be.  Then, based upon that, I would decide of 4x that amount is the right decision or going for higher quality might produce better results.

No there is no harm, just keep in mind that content creation is only 50% of what matters, make sure each piece of content is properly promoted through social media, blog aggregators, publishing websites, etc. When publishing a lot of content at once, it can be easy for some pieces of content to not be properly promoted.
