Hi,
For USA my vote goes to .com.
Thanks

Thanks for the reply,
I'm thinking the .com as well. Particularly because the .com is also ranking for some phrases in the US already.

Hi,
I’m think both solutions can work.
If you geo-target the /us directory in the Google search console you shouldn't have any problems with the subdirectories approach.Regards,

Thanks for the response,
Yes both options would work but I suppose the main question is, which is the better option from an SEO perspective?
If we use .com as the US site it will be a TLD and some phrases are already organically ranked in the US. If we create .com/us it may not be as strong as the .com

I can’t see much benefit in using .com over /us directory. You can see examples of great companies using the /us for united states. (Adidas, Nike, Samsung. Sony,…)
IMHO, the only benefit would be that with the .com you can avoid a geoip redirection from the .com to the us directory.

Good point and I did look into those companies. My main concern regarding their decision to use .com/us is that Nike, Adidas etc are recognised Global Brands and SEO optimization particularly at a keyword level may not be a top priority for them.
It really does depend on the company and SEO objectives. In my case: what is best for US optimization.
