      Dear All,

We have taken and a product called webacelator from our hosting UKfast and our ip address is changing.

UKFasts asked to point DNS  to different IP in order to route the traffic through webacelator, which will enhance browsing speed.

I am concerned, will this change effect our rankings.

      Your responses highly appreciated.

I have seen website lost their rankings and traffic when they change their hosting server where the files are located where as I never heard if someone change their DNS (domain name stays the same) has lost any rankings at all.

This is my assumption but again I would suggest you to talk to the hosting company and discuss this issue with them and they might be able to give you a better insight of what they are up to!

        Hope this helps!

          Hi Sohail,

Unlike Moosa, I have not seen a client lose positions just by having their IP changed - perhaps if this were location related traffic and you were based in London but the IP showed China I might see it happening, but it all depends on what is being implemented.

That said, I also think you should find out a little more about how this works. If someone requests your site www.sitename.com and that then forwards you through an unknown route until it reaches the destination server, then this additional hop might seem unnatural.

Is your site particularly slow? If you are based on Wordpress, then you can use Cache plugins to help speed things up. Even if you are not on Wordpress, you can help matters by employing some browser caching in your .htaccess file. Have you run your site through the Google Page Speed Insights to see what your score is? What recommendations does Google come back with?

          -Andy

            Hello Andy,

Many Thanks for your reply, the site is UK based and for UK customers. You can view details about the webacelator here https://goo.gl/3nGlNy.

Our site is not particularly slow, in google page speed it scores 83 for desktop and 70 for Mobile. We tried every bit to move the score to Green but it is fixed on current scores.

Recommendation is asking us to remove imp js files which is not possible, when we implementing google minified js the pages are not functioning proper.

One of the recommendations was CDN for which we contacted our hosting and they recommended webacelator instead of CDN as we are a UK based site only and they advised CDN is more for global websites

Our site is made on custom PHP

To the most i have read online on forums a DNS change would not affect our rankings.

We may now go ahead with the transfer keeping fingers crossed 🙂

            Cheers!

            Sohail
