      Hi,

I am new to eCommerce. Traditionally I have run a couple of semi-successful websites relying largely on Adsense revenue and affiliate income. So I have a bit of experience with on page and off page SEO.

This time around I am creating a membership site and also sell eBooks as bundles that non members can buy. My question is, should I SEO optimize the sales page for my eBook or use another content page that links to the sales page.

For example, if I am selling an ebook on Dog Training and targeting the main KW "Dog Training Tips", should my sales page be optimized for "Dog Training Tips"? The reason I ask is because typically Sales pages do not provide a lot of useful information but are more geared around selling the product.

The other option would be to create a helpful information page targeted for "Dog Training Tips" and lead users to my sales page through contextual links, banners, popups (I hate popups), etc. This would be the approach for the other LSI keywords anyways.

      Any thought would be appreciated.

From an SEO point of view you just want the one page, with all the great content on with clear call to actions. You just want the one page to rank as highly as possible in the SERPs.

However if you are planning on doing an PPC, then I would suggest having your 'Dog Training Tips' page that then leads to a sales page - which is more sales focused. Big call to action, no wastage in terms of distracting information, if your paying for the traffic you want it to convert.

Just Organic: have the one page, but with clear call to action

If you plan on doing PPC: SEO landing page, but then when you click "get more info' (or something similar), it takes you to a second more sales page - which has clear call to actions.

Buy adding in the extra step, you may see a slight decline in Organic C/R, but your PPC C/R will be far higher.

That is what I would do, hope its useful.

        Thanks

        Andy

I belive that you have to make page with great content and on the same page to lead people for Buy that product.

          Example: http://www.mobilnishop.com/mobilni-telefoni/sony/Xperia-Z3-Compact-3494/

Behavior of the people is to explore befoure buy. But make it all on the one page -  Info&Buy

          I like to simplify things.

The first question I asked in this forum was very similar to this.

It can be very difficult to optimize sales pages, especially the long-form very sales-y type. In many cases there really isn't anything you can do to the content because the sales copywriter chooses very specific language to get the message across. Additionally, these pages tend not to be the sort of thing people will link to.

What I eventually chose to do was to use the targeted, helpful information page you mentioned to draw in the organic search and not worry about the sales pages beyond title, description, and canonical.

However if you do have the option to make your helpful information page and your sales page one and the same, that is a great choice.
