Help getting a Wordpress.com site to rank
-
Hi all,
I have a blog for my site, but it hasn't been integrated into our site yet (that will happen in the next few months when we do some site changes).
For now, it sits on a Wordpress.com site, and links from my website.
I post a couple times a week, have social media linked to it, and feed posts to aggregators regularly. I also comment and like other Wordpress.com sites, but it just isn't ranking.
Do I just need to stay persistent? It's been up for a month now, but still only getting a few hits a day. Any advice?

A lot of years ago (early 2000's) I had few blog on wordpress.com and they were easily getting indexed by google with good ranking, to me it looked like google was giving wordpress.com blogs a boost just because they were on wordpress.com. But things evidently changed, because at a certain point became harder and harder to to get good ranking for new blogs hosted on wordpress.com and in later years i have never been able to win that fight.
My personal and humble suggestion is to just grab a domain, install wordpress and manage your blog there, when you are ready to include it in your main website you just 301 to the new domain.

If I was in your position I would try to get it integrated into my site as soon as possible that way you are leveraging your existing domain authority. It is much easier to rank a page that is tied to a good domain (assuming you have a good domain) then it is to start from scratch then move.

You mention that its only been a month. My gut feeling would be to say this really isn't long enough to see any tangible results in regards to SEO activity. As previously suggested aim to get your blog on your domain as quickly as possible and work your content marketing efforts from there!
