Tools to identifying keywords and phrases used universally

We have a client with a list of phrases that are part of a book they are promoting. We want to find out if those phrases are popular searches on Google and if not what phrases might be use to attract people in their AdWords campaigns as derivatives of those phrases. Is there a service or tool that can help with this task? Thanks. Jim

Hi Jimmyzip,

Some tools to get you started would be:

• https://moz.com/researchtools/keyword-difficulty - The Moz Keyword Research tool. This tool would give you a quick snapshot of how competitive a term is and what the traffic levels of the keyword are.
• Google Keyword Planner - This is a must use tool for keyword research. Google will tell you the amount of traffic that searches for the keywords you select, suggest related keywords that you may not have thought of, and even group them into commonly themed keyword groups.
• Spyfu - This is more of a competitive research tool and requires a paid service. Here you could plugin in a competitor's website and get back a list of the most popular terms they have targeted. Chances are you would want to target them as well. You can also get traffic numbers for organic and paid terms.

The tools I typically use are Semrush.com and kwfinder.com.  Kwfinder.com offers 5 free searches per day, and gives you 50 relevant searches for each inquiry you put in.  Could be a good solution for your research.
