What is the best approach to make my sites ready for mobile, in terms of SEO ?

Is it better to create a subdomain called "m.mydomain.com" and redirect mobile users to that domain with a lite version of my sites?

Or is it better to just keep the same domain as for my desktop version "mydomain.com" and use a WordPress theme that fits for all gadgets, for example Twenty Fourteen WordPress Theme, that adapts to each device?

I see that most big sites use a "m.mydomain.com" subdomain for the mobile version, however, I don't see any sense in creating a subdomain of the site, when you can just use the WP adapting theme in the main domain.

      Any insight please?

      Thanks!

        Hey BloggerGuy!

Your reference to "WP adapting theme" is actually called "responsive design."  That is definitely a great way to go in regards to mobile.  I could go on forever but this great write up (and accompanying video by Matt Cutts) already does a great job at explaining why responsive design is a good choice.

Let me know if you have any specific questions after watching that video, and reading through SEW's take on it.

If you can go with responsive sites it's better.
The energy saved can be used to further improve your SEO, spend time on link building, etc.

Also, all the you don't have to worry about duplicate content and other potential issues if something is not well configured. All the link juice is concentrated

So the simpler - responsive - solution is better, IMHO.

Thank you guys, both good answers. I just watched the video, good stuff. Then responsive design is the way to go.
