I have a news section on my site that I aggregate from multiple RSS feeds.  They are stored on my site and I have sitemap that links to them.  Is this a negative thing to do?  Since its overall duplicate content to another site, it may be a strike against me.  Should I just leave it as an updating feed and not keep the articles visible on my site?

There have been two videos by Matt Cutts about this sort of thing:

        http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z13-yP3Zhns

        and

        http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mtbNpeYP_OM

whilst they don't describe the exact scenario that you're talking about, they probably answer the generic question about how Search Engines are likely to view news feeds.

Overall it doesn't seem like it helps it any that is for sure.  I will put noindex, nofollow on those pages since it is not my content.  Thank you for the links

On a similar note to aggregating news as outlined in the question, I wonder how Google views a site such as Pinterest which is essentially just an aggregator site and offers little of additional value other than being a scrapbooking-referral type site. Any ideas anyone?

I personally never see Pinterest in my search results.  I just did a few searches for topics I like and they have awful descriptions, etc.  I don't know how many people search goole for Pinterest topics instead of just going to pinterest itself.  I do understand what you mean.

              • For a consumer facing blog, how often do you recommend updating content to develop good rankings? I understand that it's really dependent upon the niche/competition, but what are some best practices? Content is expensive. Thanks
