Yext descriptions count as duplicates?
-
I just started using Yext for local businesses, and I was wondering if using the same description on these listings and Google Local will cause duplicate content issues or if its okay as long as that description isnt on the website also?

Dr. Pete has a great post here on duplicate content issues http://moz.com/blog/duplicate-content-in-a-post-panda-world

Here's a quote by Miriam Ellis which I agree with from the Q&A above "My personal opinion is that duplication is baked into the local search ecosystem and is largely unavoidable. After all, your business NAP (name, address, phone) is duplicate content when it is published across multiple platforms and logic dictates that Google has no problem with this."
I always keep my Google plus description unique. Generally, I'll write a unique services article for my client. With all the changes that have happened to the local google plus/places/pages ; ) I try to treat Google Local like a webpage.

I like that school of thought and thanks for the links! I like the idea of treating your local places page like a webpage. I contacted Yext support to get their thoughts, though they will probably have a slightly biased opinion.

The best (most surest post-panda) and more time consuming and expensive method would be not going with YEXT and custom creating each local listing description and creating your own listings.
Having said that, in the local SEO world many will still agree that quantity of listings over quality still prevail, even in the post-panda current state of SEO.
Hope this helps
