OK Mark, Who put you up to this 😉

Just kidding, one of my favorite topics. IMO they are not worth it on a lot of levels, but I think they still think they are. According to Matt Cutts the links should be nofollowed and/or Google doesn't let them pass value, etc.  The other issue is one of how they charge, etc. To me, I can produce much better content cheaper, send it to a few people who know I am not bombarding the world, and occasionally get a valued link.

The bigger issue is that most who use these sites are using them as a mechanism for linking which is not the real purpose. Of course, Google says they should be used for real news, others pick it up, you get those links, etc. But, most want link juice and that drives that business. To me, I hate them due to the constant trash on the web. A classic is within Law. Someone discovers that fingernail polish X causes you to become a unicorn. For so long as there is a remote chance someone could be affected, every lawyer gets the PR thing, announces their firm is handling, and releases the same news So, there is no real "news" value any longer IMO.

        Good Luck

I have used releases from PR Web to get indexed as news on difficult key words.  This of course only works if there is real news related to the category that you are announcing.  I would not do this for link juice.

Exactly my feelings. I don't think they are bad, but for a $495 pr web package I think the time / money is better spent elsewhere. If it was in the $100 range it could be a good thing.

Thanks for the info. You have confirmed my thoughts on this.

Their really is no place left to get an easy link is there. Even earning them is proving epicly hard.
